I Hate Long Threads
1) You ask a question, someone answers and if you still don't understand and they doubt your intelligence publicly.

For example, I asked a question about backpacking, someone answered and I wanted to see a trip report because I didn't know if .. etc... etc.

I just think if your going to answer someone, if you feel you need to bail out because your patience is strained, just dont post anymore, dont challenge someone's intelligence and make them think the problem is more of a problem than it is.

BTW...what is hard to me, may not be to someone else, and vise versa.

Soo... Ummm..

(Which is what you get on top, when you ask Google to find matches for 'hate long threads'.)

So.. um.. is this guy a nerd or what.

2) How about when someone does not write a descriptive subject and makes you click it to find out what it is all about?

"yeah i'll go along with that... "

i really hate that!

3) I really dislike (I don't like the word hate) when people reply to others in the same thread but instead of making one post to reply to all, they post 7 or 8 or even more all in a row, like they're in a desperate attempt to boost their post count.

============================

LMAO, ROTF!!!!

4) when people come on the board with sometimes long 'Why I'm switching back to TrailTalk..' or 'Why I Hate Rodale' posts instead of productive, what can I do to make my TrailTalk better or even... etc etc..

5) I dislike it when there is some really cool place that I want to hike to, but for some reason fails to happen in my life.

Oh well, that is probably due to my incompetence rather then any thing else.

6) I hate cheese.

7) When people hijack threads to get their question answered.. I'm guilty of that at least once... but regretted it afterwords.

8) But I do like long, rambling, open ended threads like this that can just run on and on and on and on..

:)..

matt, the webmaster: This was never intended to be a long, open ended thread. I just wanted to know if anyone had similar experiences. Apparently people think threads like this have some sort of community meaning, and I've seen similar threads before --- and yanked it, quickly and permanently... life sucks, you know?

I guess without knowing it I've started another one...

9) I HATE, when someone posts, "I'd like to do , with and they get an answer: Oh, you should use pack this or shoes this, or or this new gadget..

Did I ask, "what pack or shoes would you suggest ??"

10) I HATE when you ask a question, and get the response --
"read the maps"... NOW, just maybe, if you KNEW, just what you were looking for was "CALLED", you could look it up........ and I HATE when I get the reply -- "look in some thread".... if you know its there, and where it is,
why not tell me? and Assuming you do want to help me.

Weird.. it's so Twilight Zone.. some computer nerds posting to a message board.. and you can change a few words, and its a replicate of the stuff we argue and discuss here.

Don't you hate it when??

1-You've been standing in a grocery store line-up for at least 10 minutes, you're next in line and a cashier opens up a line. Inevitably, all the people in the line behind you run over to the new line and get served before you do.

2-The boss calls you on his speakerphone.

3-You buy a new pair of shoes that fit perfectly in the shoe store but start to rub and cause blisters on your feet the moment you actually start wearing them.

4-Someone 90 years old is doing 30 mph on the expressway in the passing lane.
You ride there tail and they can't see you. You blast your horn and they can't hear you.

5-What's worse than a cold toilet seat? A warm toilet seat. There's only one way short of magic it could have gotten warm. At first, you're almost thankful it's warm, then you get to thinking... this is the result of another person's *** -warmth.

All that posted now..
All that posted now.. so I can vent.. I really do hate long threads. I don't like it to be honest. Threads can be drowned far too easily.

"You can get a thread that is keeping lots of people on the board interested at the bottom, while a thread that is basically two or three people arguing takes centre stage."

Plus, I can see people going in and making quickie posts just to get a topic back up on top with out actually adding any content.

I REALLY like it!

It is quick and easy to see exactly what's happening. Active posts stay right at the top.

Good posts don't get buried on the 'back page' in the 'oldies' section where they soon lose their life. I often go days and days without even bothering to looking back there.

I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Matt. No more whiplash scanning side to side and up and down. The threads that are hot are automatically at the top, dud threads work their way off the front page, and I can tell in an instant if anyone has hit a thread since I posted on it. Sure, anyone can bump their thread to keep it on the front page, but that's a tiny carrot that gets people to post, and it usually doesn't happen much in my experience.

Again, thanks Matt!

I'm on the fence, but I think that is mostly a natural attempt to deny change. I believe this will be good... I have always thought that if the active stuff stays up top maybe we will rid ourselves of junk threads.

Remember when we had the 45 new posts of someones religious diary in one day? Matt wouldn't have had to remove them and no one would have lost their places.
