Montrail Java GTX - high archesView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 15 of 15 messages posted.
Recommendations? Reviews? “Any gals out there with high arches? I'm looking into a new pair of hiking shoes (mid weight probably) and am thinking of the Montrail Java GTX. I have high arches - thoughts? help?” 9:07:30 AM 3/20/04 “Thanks for the info! I'll look into those also. I only wear Montrails. They are the only boots that fit my high arches and narrow heels.” 10:25:26 AM 3/20/04 “Hi LadyHiker, I don't know if this is our shoe or not... just hoping someone else has experience with high arches or this shoe.... If you try them out let me know! Good to know you've had success with Montrail in general... :)” 10:29:22 AM 3/20/04 “Anyone have shoe recommendations for high arches? (thanks)” 7:43:17 PM 3/20/04 “I just did this on the Boots thread. I'm a male with high arches. Bought a mid-weight boot. Went to REI and they helped with "Superfeet" insole replacements to support my arches--great fit. They ("Superfeet") have a variety of products--I chose the green ones. So far so good.” 8:47:30 PM 3/20/04 “one time...in church...it was real quiet and i farted real loud..... not good” 10:50:14 PM 3/20/04 “Thanks ChicagoMark. I'll definitely check that! Hey stratdewd - did the church have high arches? It could make a difference....” 6:34:43 AM 3/21/04 “I have those shoes (I think). Are they blue? I don't have high arches though, but do have narrow heels and I love them. Wish they weren't gore-tex though.” 10:10:05 AM 3/21/04 “yeah indy, now that i think of it, it did....” 10:19:44 AM 3/21/04 “Sass - here's what the shoe looks like, though the color is a little different in the women's hiker. http://store.yahoo.com/fulfillmentadventures/mojagtxsh.html Do you wish they were not Gortex because they would breathe better? (strat - that would explain everything...) :)” 10:28:44 AM 3/21/04 “Indy, I have way high arches. I run and hike in either my Montrail Hurricane Ridge GTX or New Balance 806's. They both do well for my high arches without ading insoles. Regarding goretex in shoes. I used to be a bigger fan then I am now. For sloppy trails in the late fall, winter and spring GTX is great. I will prolly always keep a pair around for such conditions. But for dry months and warmer weather the GTX sucks. Even with good wicking socks my feet get to darn hot. If I had to pick only one I'd get them without goretex and I would by some goretex or similar type (sealskins) socks for use in inclement weather.” 1:09:18 PM 3/21/04 “I have some type of Montrail trail running shoes. They have a "cup" that fits around the foot up high to keep debris out. I have high arches and the first time I **attempted** to put them on, I almost totally cramped my feet up trying to get them in. Was ready to send them back. I asked a question on here about them, if I should actually make a cut down the "cup," in essence right over the top of the arch (and top of the laced area). Someone told me not to, because the "cup" eventually will stretch some. I did not cut the "cup." It has gotten some better. I don't wear them all that much but, hey, it'd been winter and I got them last summer or fall. I like them other than getting into them.... but like I said, it's getting better.” 1:45:49 PM 3/21/04 “Depending on what kind of hiking you do check out the Dunham Cloud 9. I tried that on and to me it seemed to have high arches too and was very comfortable also. I don't "need" the high arch but the arch in this felt higher than the ones in the Merrill and Vasque I was trying on.” 3:41:49 PM 3/21/04 “Lizs, the "cup" is a scree collar.” 7:18:55 PM 3/21/04 “LOL! yup, that too. See the "computer meltdown" thread and you'll see where my brain had been functioning today! Thanks for getting the proper term out there, I couldn't come up with it. (and isn't saying "cup" more fun?? LOL)” 8:57:38 PM 3/21/04
