What better way to enjoy Easter weekend if you're not planning on spending the day in church or doing a family 'thang'!

Who's keen on doing the Pine Barrens treck this weekend (April 9 - 11th)?

Bunnies and ghosts! LOL

Don't forget the Jersey Devil. But since it's Easter, maybe the Easter bunny will have super-rabbit strength and kick his butt. Please take pictures if you witness said event.

Or.... ghost bunnies?

Oh -- You know why the Easter Bunny hides his eggs, don't you?

(he doesn't want anyone to know he's been #&%!$ing a chicken)

LOL!

Artex (I had to look up the Jersey Devil - purdy spooky!) but....I don't think the Easter bunny will have to kick the Jersey Devil's but because the Easter (or Spring Equinox bunny?) bunny existed before the the concept of the Devil developed to 'skeer' all the misbehavin' peeps.....that said - how can something that does not exist be any threat to something that does? Therefore, the Easter bunny has automatically kicked the butt of said Jersey Devil without having to exert any more energy than that of normal existance.

the above arguement has the clause that the symbol of the bunny is a remnant from pagan celebrations which were then incorporated into the newer religion of christianity.

BUNNIES KICK ASS! (even if they don'thave to because the devil does not exist for them)??

Not to get too off-topic, but that's very true. Further, the same can be seen in Christmas. The fact that the holiday is held close to the winter equinox instead of Jesus' actual birth (Jan. or Feb., depending on who you talk to), and the use of Christmas trees are both leftover pagan rituals.

Okay, that's all. Enjoy the trip, dammit.

I could go for a couple of bunnies right about now....

Also regarding Christmas - the burning of a yule log == tree lights...are also left overs

as is the act of gift giving...

Okay - who's coming on the Raising the Ghost trip?

maybe Jesus and the Jersey Devil can duke it out? me think s=South Park for some reason...

Okay - peeps - quiz me on geology!!! me midterm is tomm. and I can't study anymore.

Excited about this trip Twinks?

I wonder how long it would take me to drive down for a day hike...

hmmm...let me look

Wow! 3 hours!

Should I drive that long for one day's worth of hiking???
Adventurist

3/20/04

no - it would be a weekend!

also - the location doesn't really matter to me - I have time off from school and just want to get out and do a backpacking trip.

We can do a longer route - Catskills? Though I don't fancy having to deal with snowshoes or crampons!

Hey - Harriman has a much more extensive system of trail that can produce a lovely weekend trip!

What do you say?
Twinks

I don't think I can do the whole weekend...

I would love to do a dayhike in Harriman that weekend though!

I can't say definitely yet what's happening...

I hope everyone understands but with school, the house, etc....I'm just a little overwhelmed right now and would desire nothing more then to get out for a hike!
Adventurist

And Twinks....don't change this trip just because of me....plan it and if I make it, I make it....

ya know what I mean?
Adventurist

yep - know what you mean - but i do wonder if the barrens have enough trails to make for a "proper" weekend of backpacking.

Ok - geo studing done - cheese puff and movie watching done - philosophy paper done.....time for a bath - then my math homework - and then maybe I'll make some cookies and relax - re-review the geo....

not a bad saturday productivity wise....arghhh 8)

Barrens definitely have enough miles...but not sure if there are loops? I guess it would require a shuttle?

Input anybody?

Ecologically it may be interesting to go there at this time of the year.

How'd we get from the Pine Barrens to Harriman?
Geobeet

3/22/04

To the Trees - Yes but only if I do not have lab

Harriman is a HUGE park. Mapleleaf's weekend is to Tom Jones. Nice and short and very cool.

This weekend could be a bit long but not too much harder (as in I'm not going to the Catskills just yet)

Maple and I talked about this - but she never freakin remembers a dang thing! :)

No big deal about it. You just confused me. I asked about the following weekend. You said if you don't have a lab, then went on about the size of the park and whatnot. That's where I lost ya...
Treebeard

So we're going on a trip with Tom Jones and some guy names Harriman at some point in April?

Right, Ynami. At least you make sense!
Treebeard

Tom Jones rocks!

How many redheads this time?

Tom has to be the coolest Welshman ever - though Richard Burton is up there.

It was only supposed to mean that because Harriman is such a big park with so many different trails, that this trip would be way different than Maple's very cool trip already scheduled.
