Thunderswamp Trail

“I originally had planned to post a trip on the Thunderswamp Trail for May 1 and 2. I recently realized that Spring Turkey hunting opens that weekend and the trail will be a war zone, so lets try again. Let me know if there is any interest in a Thunderswamp Trail Trip on the weekend of April 24 and 25. If there's any interest, I'll post to the Trips board with all the particulars.”

“nice trail, rocky and wet in many parts. saw creek and red run is scenic, some cascades along red run. nice camping near saw creek. bushkill creek is also very nice with good camping. trail has no real big climbs or descents.”

calmwater3..sorry. I didn't feel safe about the opening day of spring turkey season. The area is loaded with turkeys and I'm sure there will be a lot of hunters on May 1.”

Saturday, September 29th- ThunderSwampTrail-Bridge Replacement on Saw Creek”

“Figures. Hiked that trail Labor Day weekend. Could have used a bridge then.”

“'Bout time!”

“I've hiked this trail twice and both times the Saw Creek Bridge was out. The first time was in mid-April 2006 and I was up to my thighs crossing Saw Creek in cold and fast water. I hiked it again in late May of 2007 and I was able to cross in the exact same place without even getting my feet wet. THe difference I think was that we had a pretty dry Spring in the Poconos.”

“I was on the Thunderswamp trail 2 weeks ago. Look what I found at the Flintstones campsite.

“I wonder how that happened unless someone bought the property recently or the state never owned it to begin with. Maybe it's a gag, I thought no trespassing signs were supposed to have the landowners name written on them.”

“I thought it was on the edge/past the edge of the state forest, when I looked at the new map they sent me.
The island is also a nice place to camp, although when I stayed there on my first bp trip, it t'stormed and poured all night and I didn't sleep well, thinking that the creek was going to rise and I'd be stuck on the island.. plus a big buck visited and snorted and stomped around for awhile...”

“That might be the case. There's a campsite on the Pinchot trail I used to camp at like that, right on the edge of the trail boundary. As long as I've been going up there, I never saw signs at that campsite. The last time I hiked by it, it was posted by the landowner.”
