Clean the Beach!

“Annually, there is a Beach Cleanup Day in Olympic National Park. This year it's April 23rd. Pacific Ocean currents sweep down from the NW and deposit all manner of human detrius on the beaches. Someone needs to fetch in the trash....

I'll be out there someplace, all weekend long, playing janitor. It's usually a pretty well supported event but there's always room for more pickers, hint hint.

The plan is simple. Go beachpacking. Fill trash bags with trash. The park supplies the bags, the volunteers stack the trash in piles in the woods next to the beach, and the rangers fetch it later in the spring using zodiac boats.

One mighty fine reason to go backpacking on the Oly beaches in springtime..... and if you don't live close enough to hit Oly NP, maybe you might hit a beach near you that weekend - solidarity and all that.”

“cool strider! my best frind here organized a cleanup of a certain section of the upper white river where people had been dumping tires and trash for years. it was amazing the difference that was made.

Slugman, altho it's officially a "one day event" most folks make a weekend of it. If you head to the beaches Fri nite or Sat morning you'll find lots of folks working the process. Come on out, make some friends. If you run into an old geezer wearing red hitop Chuck Taylors, be sure and say hello. I'll be out there someplace, from either Thurs nite or Fri morning, thru Sun morning.

Yam, stratdewd, even if you can't get up this-a-way, you could consider finding a beach near y'all. Most rivers, and every ocean, has a beach or two somewherez. Pickin trash is pickin trash, it always does good no matter where you might be.

Bear in mind, airplanes fly to Washington State (grin). You "could" play if you wanted to....”

“Overlooked? Not at all strider, I'm just joking and being my Bobo-self! If I had the chance to spend the day hiking the coast, It wouldn't bother me to pick up some trash at the same time! I don't know if our plans will ever be solidified, depending on what the relatives have in mind and my Wife's ever-changing business plans, our recent change in plans is good - We don't have to be in Seattle on Monday the 26th, so that may mean enough time to do the ONP loop!
