Crash! Bang! Thang! Update...
...heard from Scott via letter yesterday. He wrote it on August 21st (this past Saturday) and he was in North Woodstock, NH. He was taking the day off and then expected to be in Franconia Ridge in the heart of the WHites on the 22nd. Figures to be in Maine in a little over a week and to climb Katahdin in the last week of September. I figure, at that point, we will see him back in New York, where we will have the NYPD Hazmat team scrub him down and once again, make him suitable for habitation in our basement! We will then listen to his plan for the last installment of his sojourn: the section of NJ and NY that he has yet to do. Maple and I are looking forward to planning out a place that we can meet him for the last days of his trip. I think he will rreally enjoy having some company, knowing that he just finished an incredible task. I am looking forward to sharing those moments with him.

As Scott would say:

It's a Crash! Bang! Thang!!!

just got off the phone with stormbringer. He sounds GREAT!!
He is getty ready to do PA to NJ to NY to CT.
WE will be meeting up with him Oct 9th (sat) on the NY and CT boarder and finish the last of his hike with him (6 miles)
We need someone else to help him finish this so we can shuttle cars.
Plus it would be very cool to cheer him on!!

So please think about it and let me know.

HE really did sound so happy. He is chillin with his parents in DWG.

Your state has thoughtfully placed all the USGS quads online for free download at this site. That link will take you to the 1/100,000 maps, but you can get to the 1/24,000 maps from there. I'm trying to figure out which ones you'll need to download, and find the Connecticut quads as well.

I hate my printer.
I found the map but when I print it out, I only get the parts I don't need. grrrrr

Dover Plains, NT, and Kent, CT are the first two I looked at. That's where the AT crosses into CT from NY.

yeah it is near Pawling NY. I think that is where we are going to meet him

Pawling is just south of there.

The AT is really winding through there...eventually though it looks like it goes down to the Housatonic and follows it for a while.

Thanks for the info. I don't even really know where the AT was in NY. I knew it went through Harriman Park, but that was about it. We’re very much disconnected with the AT up here.

Too bad I won’t be able to join you, but I already have a trip planned for that weekend.

Hey, tell SB/CB whatever he's called, that he's invited to Yellow River State Forest trip, Oct. 22-24. Would like to meet that guy. Heck, I can probably even promise him a buffalo sighting!

He's got a couple chunks in the middle to finish up, then he's done. He already did Katahdin.
