Another item for Matt

“I just posted this same item using the "off topic" icon and of course no one would see it way down at the bottom - even Matt. So I am reposting it so others can see it and comment...

As a desktop & web programmer, I have a usability suggestion, since suggestions are flowing freely lately. This is something for the page that shows the Thread listing, which will make it much easier to tell what threads have new posts since the last "refresh" on the page.

Add the last post TIME, just below the date on each thread - there is just enough room there. Then just above the column headers "# Messages" and "Last Post", show the server date & time as of the point the page is generated.

Just before I refresh the page I can note the last server time at the top, then after the refresh I can scan down the Last Post column to find all the threads that have had activity since the last time I refreshed the screen. Much easier.”

“No one will be using the Chatter icon. Everything will be general backpacking. This thread should be removed and techngeek banned for using the wrong icon.”

“i don't fully agree with bacpac... but i do agree with the fact that this shows a problem, posts under chatter will ultimately be lost at the bottom if they have importance to the general user that stays at the top, so everybody is going to start using the general icon, even for political banter because they're going to want their ideas heard.”

“obviously we're going to need a seperate icon for political discussions, or Matt is going to have to be constantly reviewing new threads and reassigning them. Hell he'll probably have to do that anyway because some people will use the wrong icon just to get to the top. One thing that could be done is to set it up so people involved in the political discussions could choose to have those posted at the top.”

Do you have the option set for your account to view the time format instead of the date format on the main page? Go to "edit account" and scroll near the bottom. There is an option to choose between date and time formats. I think this is what you are suggesting. Is that right?”

“Yes and no. Right now you can only select date OR time - maybe just stick both there and forget the option? Changing to time (thanks for the tip) does help some, that solves the biggest part of the problem. How about adding the current server time at the top, too?”
