AmyG and skiracer, thank you so much for your updates. What wonderful reports -- and what a tough son of a gun that Pedxing is.

He is in Bigelow 13, the burn center for now. You can also send something to David Vogel, 15 Beech St., Cambridge MA 02140 and he'll get it.

Well I've been gone a long, long time, and here the first post I read is one of community, hope, and perserverance. I'm glad to hear of Ped's recovery! I'm also very glad to see the support system here. The people of TT are an amazing group. Thanks for the update AmyGee!!!

Penns...I'm corresponding with David's sister about visitation stuff and I will keep you posted. It would be great to have the company, as it can be a long drive solo. I will definitely be going though...soon.

David's kicking a$$!!!
update from David's sister-

Just got the news from Mom - David's moving to Spaulding Rehab Ctr today!

In general the last week or so has seen a step by step increase in David's health, mobility, ability to communicate clearly, etc. He moved to a non-ICU room a couple days ago, and got a phone in his room.

He's been walking with a walker, and even a bit without a walker.

Thanks for all your good wishes and care! David's likely to be home almost before we know it!

That is absolutely fantastic! It sounds like he's doing much better than just a week ago when I visited.

That’s great but if he’s out of ICU, surely he could have an internet connection by now. I haven’t seen him post yet.

I'm sure Pedxing will begin posting as soon as he is able, but it may not be for awhile.

In the meantime, keep Ped and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Somehow that bit about now being able to communicate clearly reminds me of that old joke about the guy asking his doctor if he’d be able to play the violin after his recovery.

boy am I gonna get it

Good News...seems like he's having an exponential recovery there?

Seems like he keeps on getting better and better at a faster rate!

AmyG...I'm not really that knowledgable about burns...

Has he been, or will PedXing be getting skin grafts?

I've been real quiet on these threads, but every time I've had a few minutes to check out TT, the first and often the only thing I've read is the Ped update thread...

I have now smiled at these threads more often than I have cried. :)

Welcome back, David, welcome back.

Question:

Are the mobility issues (use of walker etc) more the effect of having been in a medically induced coma for so long (what was it 1 month or more?) and the associated atrophy . . .

or is it burn related?

I seem to remember reading that the burns were mostly arms, neck face, back?????

AmyG . . . .

again . .thanks so much.

I certainly echo Fritz thoughts.

lee- I think it has to do with both. If you haven't used muscles in a long time, there is definitely the question of atrophy. Add to that the trauma of having to grow new skin that may not be quite as flexible for quite awhile. It must be very painful.

Pedxing was burned on his ears, chest, arms, hands, legs and feet....and I've probably missed a few places.

okay. Thanks Ski.

I was obviously trying to seperate for myself what were strength and disorientation issues due to long medical coma versus recovery from burns.

How lovely!
I just checked in to see how Ped is doing and found this thread! It is truly an answered prayer to read that he is making such good (but steady) progress.

Yes, it sounds like he has risen..how appropriate for this time of year when many Christians are celebrating Jesus's joyous return (rising) as well.

Ped, you're still in my prayers and thoughts!
