Sounds good, Mark. I have started in recent trips to know my way around a bit. I like walking around the downtown area. There's several directions we could go. We'll improvise, ok? And stay outta that park, ya freakin' wino!

Just make sure my ass-crack isn't exposed when I pass out in the Common, OK?

Tree - if it's a nice day I strongly recommend walking the Freedom trail. Consider having Lunch in the North End (our smaller version of little Italy) - Galleria Umberto at 259 Hanover St. in the North End is a great place for lunch - though on Saturday the lines may be a reminder of life in NYC. There are maps of the Freedom trail around town (hit any hotel?) and there is an info center near Park St. Station.

I agree. The couple of times I've been in Boston I kept thinking, "If only Chicago's CTA would be as good!"

given the fuego stuff, I thought you'd get a hoot out of this guide to the area (with a section on Cambridge. BTW, Tip O'neil's home was just down the street from my house. And the Brits stopped for beer on their way to pout down the rebel uprising in Concord and meet the shot heard round the world).

MAPLELEAF ADVISORY
I have been married to this woman for almost 20 years. She has an incredible sense of direction. She can go into a hedge maze and come back out without much difficulty. She can navigate through a maze of country roads (with no street signs), making at least a half dozen turns, an d find her way out. However, she has one fatal flaw! She can't go from 51st to 49th Street without getting lost! BEWARE!!!

Something you might want to remember mapleleaf, is that the subway in Boston doesn't run 24/7 (at least it didn't a few years ago when I was there last). We ended up just catching the last train around 2am to make it back to our hotel.

{title:The MTA Song}
{st:Jacqueline Steiner & Bess Hawes}

[G]Now let me tell you of the story of a [C]man named Charlie
On a [G]tragic and fateful [D7]day.
He put [G]ten cents in his pocket, kissed his [C]wife and family,
And went to [D7]ride on the M[G]TA.

{c:Chorus:}
[G]Well did he ever return? No he [C]never returned,
And his [G]fate is still unle[D7]arned.
He may [G]ride forever 'neath the [C]streets of Boston,
He's the [G]man who [D7]never ret[G]urned.

Charlie handed in his dime at the Kendell Square station,
And he changed for Jamaica Plain.
When he got there the conductor told him, "One more nickel."
Charlie couldn't get off that train.

{c:Chorus.}

Now all night long Charlie rides through the station
Crying, "What will become of me?
How can I afford to see my sister in Chelsea,
Or my cousin in Roxbury?"

{c:Chorus.}

Charlie's wife goes down to the Scolla Square station
Every day at a quarter past two.
And through the open window she hands Charlie a sandwich
As the train comes rumbling through.

{c:Chorus.}

Now you citizens of Boston, don't you think it's a scandal
How the people have to pay and pay?
Fight the fare increase, vote for Walter O'Brien,
And get Charlie off the MTA.

{c:Chorus.}

I'm gonna tell you a story
I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town

Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, fuggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for my baby to walk around)

Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Well, I love that dirty water (I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water (I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water (Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water (I'm the man, I'm the man)
I love that dirty water (Owww!)
I love that dirty water (Come on, come on)

Mrs. Skiracer and I arrived at Pedxing's house late in the afternoon. The house looks fantastic after the renovations after the fire. It's great that Pedxing and his family were able to recently move back home and start to get some normalcy back into their lives.

We met up with Artex, MarkO, Mrs. MarkO, Mapleleaf, Treebeard and wintersolstice from TT. It was great to meet with the folks from TT and get to meet Pedxing and his family. Both the company and the food were enjoyed by all. I forgot my camera, but Artex and the Tree family had their cameras in tow. They took some group shots before leaving which I'm sure they'll post.

Congratulations to Pedxing and family on surviving an incredibly trying year, Pedxing's marriage, and moving back home. Your courage and ability to handle a difficult situation is both a testament and an inspiration to me.

I echo skiracer's sentiments. The house looked great, and congrats on rebounding from a tough stretch. I had a great time and it was great to see everyone again.

It was wonderful that Artex, Mr. and Mrs. Racer, Tree, Maple, Mark and Mrs. O, Winter Solstice and a Maple Tree sapling were all able to come. I'm moved that y'all came such a long way to celebrate with us.
Elle was glad to meet some more of the people I'd talked about and to meet up with Ski (they'd been in touch a bunch during tougher times). She thought Sapling was great kid. We both liked him.

I raised a glass (actually, a cup) to those TT'ers who couldn't make the trip (shoulda raised it with the other TT'ers). After more than 5 years of cominmg to TT it's not just a place to post, its a place to keep in touch with a lot of people who've come to mean a lot to me.

I echo the sentiment that the house looked great, too! However, I must clarify that statement, leaving out the pieces of cake that were wedged in the creases on the staircase, the spills, beer bottles, etc! Man, you guys probably worked pretty hard [before and] after that party!

Seriously, great to see Artex, Ped and Ellen again. The presence of the Ski-people was an extremely pleasant surprise, as I had never had the opportunity to meet those fine folks! Of course, I don't want to leave WinterSolstice and Mark-O out of the equation here, either. WS was a great host and Mark-O stayed out of trouble!

The party was an obvious success. Ped, you looked extremely content, which did my heart good to see! I wish you well in the future and thank you once again for having us. I hope to meet up with the New Englanders mentioned above soon. Great party. Great food. great company. That sums it up.

I downloaded the pictures to my computer last night, but had trouble getting them on webshots. It froze three times in a row and then, by midnight, I was too tired to deal with it. I will re-work them tonight...

That was fun!

The weather was also fine.......if ya like it windy and cold and rainy.

Cape Cod was expecially pleasant with the howling wind and sideways rain.

And did ya hear that Artex saw The Three Bears?
