A new thread, due to large volume :)
Wonderful news, he's awake!!!

David woke up yesterday, much more significantly than before. At about 5:15 in the morning he woke up and was clearly asking about what had happened, what was going on, was Caleb OK.

Steve and I went in around noon and he was awake again. It was
incredibly emotional to see him. It was so hard, because he's obviously still in pain and lots of discomfort, and he doesn't have much energy

And yet, it's so incredibly wonderful to talk to him again, and have him respond, to know us, to become David again. He seemed worried but very aware. He can't
yet talk as the respirator in the neck means the air can't go through his vocal cords. But he mouthed words when he could, and his eyes and mouth said so much. He grinned so broadly when I told him I loved him, and frowned sadly when I said Gorgy missed him.

Later in the day Caleb and
Natti and Dad and Ellen went in. He puckered at Ellen right away. Caleb, Natti and Dad all talked to him. I think everyone shed at least one tear yesterday.

It is a blessing and a joy, even while it is hard to see him suffering, to have him come back to life like this. The nurse told us he'll go to the OR
once more, on Wednesday - for slight checks and work on his ears and belly.

Starting yesterday, they're beginning to give him some time off the respirator entirely. At first it will tire him. He may leave MGH as early as the middle of next week.

So this is the first time he's been awake AND aware of his surroundings? I can't phathom waking up 4-6 weeks after an event and not being aware that time had passed. Simply amazing. It's great to hear how he's progressing.

Whoohoo, whoohoo, whoohoo...

...hey, he woke up how long ago and still hasn't posted on TT?

j/k Ped. But I do so look forward to your first post. If you think the pollen level is high around the country today, wait until that happens. They'll have to post a national flood advisory on the Weather Channel. The confusing part for non-TTers will be the sunny weather symbols of joy that will go along with it.
