Pardon Me While My Head Explodes!

“Pardon me while I wrap my head in duct tape as to avoid a spontaneous explosion of my brains. I’m an easy going guy that doesn’t get too excited about the things I see in the world. Very little surprises me or takes me off guard. However…there is a little liberal arts university near me, forgive me, an ULTRA-liberal arts university, near me that has just stunned and befuddled me. Anyone who has been befuddled knows it’s no fun.

So here’s a little preface of the situation. Being so open minded and liberal the university has what is called POCW (People of Color Week) where they open dialogue on racial issues and try to open the lines of communication between the different races at the school. Sounds great right? I love the idea. Here’s where the trouble starts. This week there appeared racial slurs written on the sidewalks across campus and even huge banners hung from balconies with hateful racial accusations. It was very blatant and very disturbing. So what happened? Nothing. Not a damn thing. Not only was nothing done but the school president and faculty PRAISED the racial slurs all over campus! What the phuck! Why? Because it was racism against WHITES!

Such things that were found written everywhere where such things as, “DIE CRACKER!!”, “BECAUSE OF YOU WE DIE!”, “ALL WHITES ARE RACIST!”, and “POC is taking over!”. The university has praised these acts saying that it is a good way for minorities to voice their frustrations and a way of making people think. Yeah, I’m thinking alright. I’m thinking how phucked up this university is. And what they would do if it was the other way around and things like “Die #&%!$s!”, and “All blacks are criminals!” was all over the place? Unphuckingbelievable. So in response some of the white kids started pasting up quotes from MLK and Gandhi about people coming together or perishing. Very good. Were it the other way around I have no doubts there would have been riots and picketing.

So I sit back and wait for the outrage to begin. Nothing. Zip. Notta. Zilch. It got 2 minutes on the local news for two days and the story dies. I couldn’t even find any news stories for links about it. I have been accused of being less than sensitive to the plight of minorities and of playing the “poor oppressed white male” because of speaking out against reverse racism. Whatnever, but it is shlt like this that fuels my sense of injustice and the blatant hypocrisy of those who use racism to further their own agendas. These racists are every bit as shameful as the KKK.

I had even thought there might be a way to see if the Associated Press might find the story interesting but I have no resources of the story as there isn’t even anything on line concerning the story.”

In New York, it may be a Calvin Butts, Al Sharpton or someone like that. They don't have to be involved. But, if they are trying to achieve positive things for their followers, then they should be the ones out there denouncing negative behavior and showing their constituents that education, tolerance and accentuating the positive achievements of their people are the way to get things across. I feel that as a white male I am incumbent to do even MORE against racism against minorities because it is my duty to show that all whites aren’t racists.”

Obviously, I meant that college is a place of experimentation and learning. Some lessons are ugly, some are banal, some are controversial, and while I don't personally approve of this approach, I'm not going to let my head explode over it.

What happens in college doesn't always affect things outside of college. College isn't real life.”
