Hey Zac,

We're heading up to Saranac on Thursday. We need to load up on wood beforehand, according to the rangers up there. What would be the most economical way to procure a bunch of wood on the way up to the daks? any suggestions?

About the only thing I can think of is to buy wood from a roadside stand. It's probably not going to be supper cheap, but I can't thing of any thing else besides searching the woods for dead and downed wood.

Thamks, Zac. I think a strategic, half hour stop (roadside on a road with wooded areas) with all three vehicles in the caravan, could yield enough to make it worthwhile. And then, to supplement it, buy some of the larger pieces. I'll run it by the group...

lyra, I was punning on "Woodstock".

"Woodchuck" is a slang term for Vermonter.

Zac lives near Wears-a-toga, New York.

Woodstock, Woodchuck, what's the dif? Actually there is a Woodchuck draft cider that's made in Middlebury.

As for myself, I live outside of Sartoga Springs. A place that’s lets everyone know how great and historic it is, but forgets it came of age through prostitution and gambling.

Saratoga Springs is one of the closest concert venues to Vermont.

It's kinda like driving to Boston to see a ballgame.

lyra, did you know that Quechee Gorge is very popular among suicide jumpers??

Almost every time I go to Maine I stop at a Dana’s Diner at Quechee Gorge for breakfast. Jumping off the bridge over the gorge defiantly would end it all pretty fast.

well at least you'd have a pretty last view to look at! we walked down to the bottom the other weekend, it was nice. i've never been to that diner, but i did go to that big "antiques" mall they have there last weekend...that sort of made me want to kill myself! LOL.

If you want to kill yourself in Maine, the perfect time is now. Memorial Bridge is under construction and not only is the suicide fence off, but the sidewalks and regular guard rails are gone as well. It's kinda scary driving across the bridge with only the jersey fence (or whatever that thing is) between you and the Kennebec River.
However, the view is great now that the suicide fence is gone.

haha, you could go to Dunkin' Donuts first, LOL...

Hey twigeater, it's called a Jersey Wall, and if you ever actually went to Jersey you might consider ending it all!!

When I lived in Vermont I rarely got on down to that uppity town of Woodstock.

I was mostly in and around the gritty villages of Randolph and Bethel.

We also had our hands full with little children and didn't get out much.

On rare occasion we would go to that swingin' capitol city of Montpelier for a meal and a picture show.
