Info/Advice for the Lost Coast
I've never been there but want to hike it this summer. Thoughts & Ideas of best route, time to go and other general info would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Freedom
Hope you are doing well. Not moving back to G'burg anytime soon are you? If you want to know about the Lost Coast I think that Buck is the guy to talk to. He has some good LC trip reports and pictures. I read them but can't remember where. If not here then over at www.highsierratopix.com

And if Buck reads this I want to remind him that he still owes me his bigfoot story over on the HST site. Remember that Buck? I'm still waiting.

Freedom, first thing about the Lost Coast is that often, summer is the worst time of the year. Windier and Foggier than other times. That said, your also more likely to NOT get drenched as you might in the winter.

Even though it's level hiking for the most part, the trip is not without effort. The sand and rocks make for slow going. The far ranging views also make it feel like your not moving; say, isn't that the point in the distance that we saw about 6 hours ago? Pick up a tide book, there are a few spots of tidal tightroping. Keep your eye on the ocean, it can sneak up on you. Poison Oak is abundant. The wildlife is incredible; Deer, Bear, Elk, Mt. Lion, Whale, Seals, Starfish, Sea Anenome... The scenery is spectacular and the feel of the ocean along 25 miles of roadless fronted beach is, well probably similar to the feel up at Striders beach.

Right now is best if you can dodge the storms, after that, fall which generally provides the best weather.

Hi! There is no "best" time to hit the Lost Coast, as all seasons are great! My favorite time is winter and spring, when everything is green. Right now the flowers should really be blooming, yaaaa! I've been fortunate enough to have already made numerous backpacking trips there this year. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask! Here's a few pics I have uploaded from some trips if you wanna check 'em out!

Remember, bear canisters are required. On the northern sections of the trail, look for trails on the bluffs (you'll get weary of sand hiking if you're doin' the whole thing). Check yourself for ticks often, the place is riddled with 'em.

Buck! Great shots. Very inspiring as I have been taking photography classes. I wish they were in my portfolio.

With what were they shot. Digital or 35mm. Did you use filters or are the spring colors that stunning? Would love to know the nuts and bolts of them so I can bring the appropriate gear when I make my voyage.
