IM QUITTING MY JOB TODAY!!!

“Quiting a job because you got a better job is a good thing. I would sugggest you give your current boss more notice just in case you need him for a reference, or if someone does a background check on you for future employment.”

“nah you obviously dont work in the automotive business...for body shop techs/ paint techs giving notice means one thing...you tell them im leaving in two weeks...they tell you, WANT ME TO CALL THE TOW truck for your toolbox??? they dont give a flying you know what who is working there as long as they are meeting their forecast...but oh well let them find someone to replaceme before my helper takes a vacation for a week...im not giving notice...i just no longer care”

“It looks more and more like I'll be quitting my job in the next few weeks, as a better opportunity has finally come my way. My current employer has been very good to me so I do plan on giving a notice of leaving.

Unfortunately, although I have not talked with this Co yet about time off (I'm getting a 2nd interview and from the way the dood talked to me I get the feeling I'm already in), I may not be able to take 1.25 weeks off for the CA King's Canyon trip. We'll see.”

The last time I changed jobs (almost 8 years ago), I was very unhappy, but gave a reasonable notice. When the company president tried to unreasonably delay paying me for a miniscule amount of company stock they had given me as a "bonus" one year, I left immediately and threatened to come to their stockholder meetings every year! They couldn't wait to pay me for the stock at that point! Too bad, that coulda been kinda fun....”

“well just to go against your saying maple i burnt that bridge and he asked me to stay...ha, i doubt that...too much ass kissing going on in the old shop...worked about 6 and a half hours today and it was great...and for more money to boot...and to whoever started the post about MORE TIME OR MORE MONEY??? i choose both...CUZ I CAN...i am just good enough at my job that i can do that i suppose...it went great and i am happy for the supportive comments above...after i told him i wasnt staying he said good luck and he can understand why i would leave for more money and less time there...”

“I hate having to quit. I have only had to do it a few times so far. The last one was tough because I was leaving the profession I went to school for. I worked hard to get into the place I ended up working for 5 years. I finally came to the conclussion that the time I was spending at work and the lack of money I was making would eventually cause Barbie and I to split up. I was never home and we had just gotten married.

I look back at that decision and I think I made the right choice.

I did play "I will survive" on my CD player the morning I drove into work and quit my last job.

A few weeks before I quit, I painted a picture of a cheese (after reading "who moved my cheese".... He thought it was really funny to "move it" every few days....(BEFORE i put in my notice.)

After I went in and gave him my notice, I would "move my cheese" closer towards the door every day during the last 2 weeks in my office.... :-)”

Just be VERY careful--someone I knew had MENTIONED giving notice and then next day, her boss started interviewing new people! (so, in essence, that left her no choice BUT to quit-- but it was okay--he was a jerk anyways.)”

“I'm starting a new job this weekend. I got my notice Tuesday. I am leaving a comfortable inside laboratory job of 12 years and going to a sweaty outside job. My bosses, bosses, boss said I was picked because of my experiance and good work habits. No extra pay, no promotion just we need you to go there. I'm now a true blue collar worker. I guess I should be glad to still have a job in the Bush economy.”

“my current boss in FL was one of my references for my new job in CO - but I've had other bosses that I never would have dreamed of asking to do that.

At my last job, I went to my boss to ask for some extra time off (I didn't have any vacay time left) so that I could come down here and interview with some peeps.

I didn't tell anyone (including my closest friends at my job) about leaving until the day I came in and gave notice. (nothing like a new suit to perk you up!)

I didn't use anyone at my old job for a reference since I was changing fields anyways... However, I had enough good references that I didn't need him. (didn't want his reference was more like it-- he had it out for me from the earliest days in that job.)

I was actually quite nice, gave them 3 extra days before leaving... but I made sure to take all of my vacation time before I left!

My friends were so shocked-- when I stepped into their offices to let them know the scoop, they thought I was going to tell them that I was preggers... LOL!!

However I got around to most of the office (well, my good friends, anyhow) BEFORE the boss came in... I waited until he came back from Christmas Break. Merry new year!

“yeah, i would think that most people are good enough judges of character to know whether or not they should say something. i've never had any other "real" boss except the one i have now, but the way other people talk, i'm sort of afraid to think about what it would be like to have someone else for a boss!”

“I've had good bosses, bad bosses, mediocre bosses, smart bosses, stupid bosses, you name it. The bad ones are usually very, very bad, while most of the others simply fall in the competent category. The biggest complaint I have about my current boss is that she tends to talk over me when I'm explaining something, but I chalk that up to her being a programmer too.”

it's not stupid at all, if you knew how my job operated. they get angry if you don't tell them. they're rather have the notice so they can be prepared. either way i'm looking for a new job, so what's it matter? if all else fails i can do the claims adjustment job until i move.”
