You are right BP-- bad bosses can be REALLY bad-- and then make you guarded when you actually have a GOOD boss!

It's like being abused and then having to trust a new stranger to not be abusive...

Them getting angry when you quit is their problem, not yours. If you give a proper two weeks notice, then they've got no grounds to think ill of you. If they want to keep competent people, they can either give raises, or improve working conditions. The fact that you're afraid to quit because of their response is indicative that they don't belong in the position.

I will NEVER LEAVE...do you hear me, I love the long hours, the crappy weather, getting called at all hours of the day and night. When I die, they will freeze dry me and leave me at my desk...

So it goes...

You need a week for that. You should be finished after your morning coffee!

And if you don't finish, will you have to remain on board for another week?

LOL.

I have six weeks to wait. It is going to be hard. I haven't told my boss yet, though I have been very tempted. For financial reasons, I have to keep my mouth shut until the end of March. Mid-April I'm going hiking!

I'm thinking of applying for a bank teller position; anybody ever do that? Is it pretty high stress? More so that my cashier positon here at Office Depot? I'm guessing it is. Probably $2 an hour more, day hours likely. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

what do you guys think?

Congrats Opie...!

Pam..I haven't done that but it is a good starting point if you want to move up in the bank.

Pamela - I am sure it is up to you whether it will work or not, but from my brother and friends who have been bank tellers, it is not as glamorous as it appears. I suggest you persist and find someone who can give you some insights. I suppose a lot depends on the working culture in the bank.

Good news Opie. Congratulations.

Pamela. I'd think go for it, but a lot will depend on the particular bank.

From what I gathered about one bank, it could be really slow most of them time -but then huge rushes (esp. lunch hour and after work on payday at the hospital nearby). Also, there was much anxiety if the numbers didn't add up.

Pamela my aunt started as a teller at a bank in Nashville back in the 80s. Along the way she was Minnie Pearl's personal banker.
She's now a vice president for Sun Trust.

I guess I'm back on the job hunt again. I just started my job on Wednesday. I know it seems soon, but sometimes you can just tell when you made a bad decision.

The best part is that I pretty much have to quit since I won't have time to interview if I stay at the job. It's tax season, so it would be a fight to even schedule a doctor's appointment.

Anyone else take a job out of college and quickly realize it was the wrong one? I think I was so excited about not having to look for a job anymore that I got jaded.

Dude, my last job was the worst one i've ever had. I jumped too quick, and knew it was wrong after 2 months. You should see progression of the 5 resignation letters i wrote over the course of the last 2 months there. I turned in a very cordial professional one....lol...Only stayed 6 months total.

Pamela...I was a bank teller for a few years. Its a fun job if you like people. Although people can get quite cranky when they are trusting you with their money. The hours are nice...usually 8:30 or so till about 5:30. Unless you are working somewhere with early morning or Saturday hours. You will have your weekends off which is nice. You will get all the holidays but if it snows, you still have to go to work. The bank has to open. Banks cannot be close more than 3 days in a row...
It is a pretty thankless job and you are the front line to the customers...which is good and bad. I always enjoyed it. From what I have seen of your personality here, you would probably be a good fit.

I had to get $100 in small bills recently for change for a civic club fundraiser. I got 50 $1's and then bigger bills for the other 50. It was taking a while and I looked over and saw her counting out the money. This is all in the drive thru. I realized she was double or triple counting since there were so many bills. It then hit me, "I bet she thinks I'm going to a bachelors party tonight." For some reason that embarrassed me.
