Gila Region, Southwestern New Mexico
We took a few days and headed to southern NM, specifically outside the village of Gila and Pinos Altos, a small village on the road to the Gila Cliff Dwellings and Gila Wilderness entrance.

The place we stayed was on 70 acres and bordered on 700 acres of state land. We spent most of our time on

Bear Creek.

I also got in a great afternoon hike to a couple of un-named peaks above Bear Creek and discovered First Valley and great year round water. 5 miles and some great vertical! Big views into the Gila WildernessBear Creek Overlook Hike

Pinos Altos also yieled a great afternoon hike to Signal Peak. Another great climb to panaromic views, cool pine forests and warm March sun. Signal Peak

Nikon coolpix 5700.

I have been jealous of the rich colors I have seen from Pennsy, Buck and others, started experimenting.

The auto setting tends to overexpose and lose color saturation and contrast, so I started using manual/presets that the camera thinks is an underexposure. The beauty is that I can immediately see the result and bracketing costs nada!

daytime temps in the upper sixties, nights in the mid 30's. No bag nights. :(
