“I'm going to give my SweetWater Walkabout one more chance and after that if it fails after a thorough cleaning...then anyone who wants to deal with it can have it. The stupid thing would only pump 1/2 liter or less this weekend before it clogged. Sad.”

“I never had a problem with it for the first 25L. I've been using it since October and the filter is supposed to have a life of 125L. I wrote an Epinion about this product praising it, now I'm going to have to change my mind.”

“I had a similar problem with my guardian. The thing worked fine the first 2 seasons and then all of a sudden didn't work. I sent it back to Cascade Designs and they replace the pump portion of the unit with no questions asked. I decided to replace the filter and it worked fine for the next three trips I took it on before winter set in. I'll see how it works this spring. It is time I find a replacement for it.”

“I had the same problem with my sweetwater guardian once, even after cleaning it with the brush. I remembered reading somewhere to soak the filter in water with a few drops of bleach in it (about 20-30 min) and tried that. Presto . . . worked like new again.”

“So I've used the Miniworks without a problem, and the PUR without a problem, but not the SweetWaters without a problem. So it comes down to the PUR or the Miniworks. My roommate has the Miniworks so I don't need info on it...any pros/cons about the PUR?”

“I believe that Roseymonster had some serious problems with his PUR Hiker in Bolivia or Peru or wherever he is in South America right now...even though the water appeared clear it clogged really fast.

“No problems I'm aware of. I replace the filter after a long while. It pumps a pretty good stream. Fills a liter bottle quickly enough. Haven't been poisoned yet, to the dismay of some.

Mine is actually not a Pur, but a Katahdin. It's the same filter, but Pur took it over after Katahdin went belly up. So it's been around awhile.

It replaced one that pumped a pint every 500 years.”

haha, the filter was kind of a joke. i know no one has been happy with those filters. i don't think i've read anything good about it.
i bought myself the simmerlite for a christmas present this year and then i got another one as a gift. it's just been lying around and if i get rid of it i'll have one less thing to move in a couple weeks. not crappy at all. works just like a whisperlite but lighter and easier to control the flame.”
