Breaking news from Kalispell, Montana
Mom, the spinach is moving
Associated Press

KALISPELL (AP) - If you thought it was tough to get kids to eat their spinach before ...

A Kalispell woman found a small tree frog in a bag of triple-washed spinach Sunday night.

"All last week I'd been pulling out handfuls of spinach," said Laurie Kollmann, who said she used the spinach in three earlier salads. "Then last night I was making salad for today's lunch and found it."

The frog was hidden among a pile of spinach leaves on Kollmann's kitchen counter. Kollmann was tearing up the spinach for tossed salad when her 11-year-old daughter, Ashley, saw something moving.

"Mom, it's 'Fear Factor,'" Ashley said in reference to the TV show where people earn prize money by eating all manner of things.

Kollmann uncovered the tiny, lethargic frog and made it a home in a plastic tub, with spinach to eat.

Kollmann said the frog perked up after it was freed from the fridge and she took it to St. Matthew's School on Monday to show to her 20 third-grade students.

The students quickly named it Popeye.

The third-graders had settled down for a math test after the amphibian interruption when Kollmann nodded at the frog - in a bed of spinach - and said, "It was my lunch."

She decided school lunch would be just fine.

That's almost as bad as getting down to the bottom of the bowl of cereal and finding ants.

I don't know about that one Nigal, a frog would bother me in my food, I've eaten a bowl of cereal that had ants floating in it before... not just a couple ants either, about 10 with every spoonfull, adds protien.

Some frogs you can freeze solid and they can be thawed and resuscitated.
