Y2. Are you calling me bacpac? - I usually learn by mistake, if I survive.

In combat? No one. I've lost my father, several close uncles and aunts, and a couple of close friends.

I did 5 years, 6 months and 9 days in the Navy (but who was counting) as a Hospital Corpsman with 2 tours in RVN. I don't think I was particularly exposed to imminent danger so I emphasize that I was in a support role. I did some medevac work, scrubbed surgery and did post-op and followup work with amputees. I was committed to what I did and would like to believe I did it well. Following this I served 22 years in the Coast Guard.

My five brothers were all in various branches of the service and did their time in RVN as well. I believe I mentioned in a previous thread that at least 2 of them still aren't right (some would likely say that I must be one of those 2).

If nothing else all these threads are thought provoking and, as a result, I have realized that I have not felt as vital or contributing since I retired, relative to what I did in the service. Making glasses for Walmart just didn't seem to cut it. I think after these next 2 years of pure self indulgence I'll look at getting back into community service (without the judge telling me I have to).

I saw the beginning of a grass roots organization. "Homes for
disabled Vets." Amputees,like a
guy who lost both forearms changing a blackhawk tire. He is
gonna get the first house,adapted
for people with disabilities.
I hope this idea will take off.

Bacpac - given your track record on offensive comments, how you have the front to criticise anyone else is beyond me."

Snake - You aren't downplaying what you did, are you? Is imminent risk a factor? And I'm sure there was great risk involved.

elfskin - I could never do what you do. I'm in research probably only b/c I can't deal with humans in less fortunate circumstances.

Posting around here is slowly teaching me to downplay everything. Last thing I need is a TT purple heart.

That enough "serving" or do you want a list of awards and body counts (on their side and ours)?

I still haven't seen a satisfactory answer for the "Moron in combat" statement. If that's your idea of humor, you are an idiot.

I certainly didn't read the moron comment as a joke. I've never served in the miliary but have the utmost respect for those that have.

Who'd have ever thought that bacpac and Phaedrus would be fighting a common battle?

I tend to agree, anyone who claims to have "served" by doing research on a Hemostatic Bandage has certainly made great sacrifices for his country.
