But have any of you Ebayers ever upped your bid on something just to make the other person pay more? lol...” 8:37:01 PM 3/30/04 “Yes, hee hee.” 8:39:47 PM 3/30/04 “Ever get caught paying more than you wanted to for something? lol...” 8:42:08 PM 3/30/04 “nope!! I never pay more then I wanted to pay in the first place. I am pretty good at ebay shopping since I have auctionsniper.” 8:44:45 PM 3/30/04 “When I first bid years ago I found myself emotionally involved and bid to much to 'win'. I always figure out what the thing is worth to me and set a max price I will not go over in my head. I stick to that price. Also I never bid untill about 30 seconds before closing. Sneak attack!” 8:47:38 PM 3/30/04 Stupid question “What's auctionsniper?” 8:49:41 PM 3/30/04 “Most people are idiots when it comes to eBay. They'll pay more than full retail for an used item a lot of the time. Usually I can find the same item new for a lower price than on eBay. Just be a good shopper.” 8:50:55 PM 3/30/04 “That is pretty much the way I have been handling it. I have a set price for what I want to pay for this camera, including shipping, and I won't pay any more for it. I guess I screwed up when I bid 3 hours before the auction was over.” 8:51:29 PM 3/30/04 “Yep, I'm looking at getting a Fuji Finepix A205 or 2650 just for backpacking. I found the A205 at Gateway, new, for $99. Gateway will ship for free, but I have to pay AL sales tax, so I figure it will end up costing me about $107 to go that route. So for Ebay, I've set my limit, camera plus shipping, to be $90. Maybe I'm being irrational, but I don't see the point of buying something at auction unless it's a deal. Bidding $90 on something and then paying $14 shipping on top would mean I saved a whopping $3 going the Ebay route.” 8:56:02 PM 3/30/04 “go to auctionsniper.com they give you 2 or 3 free snipes. worked for me once. I have not used it yet. (didn't bid on anything)” 8:56:10 PM 3/30/04 “beware who you sell to. I'm involved in a heated battle with some putz who doesn't understand the meaning of "as is".” 8:56:50 PM 3/30/04 “it pretty much does what stove stomper does, it bits right before the auction closes. I never bit a couple days before the auction closes. I always bit at the end. always!!!” 8:57:26 PM 3/30/04 “Have to agree there with ya BB. Some real jerks out there. I got an email the other day because someone was ticked off about my shipping charges for the laptop and software. Hey, I just typed in the weight... I later noticed that I screwed up and that I charged the poor guy $25 for extra shipping costs. (it wasn't the guy that emailed me though) i did feel a little bad, but I added about 10 more softwares to the pack. I think he'll be happy.” 9:00:49 PM 3/30/04 “Just buying right now, not selling...” 9:01:32 PM 3/30/04 “bit - I have the Fuji FinePix A101. Nice little ultralight 1.3 Megapixel. Good enought for web work. I paid $120 for it a year or so ago. The memory is getting hard to find now though.” 9:02:17 PM 3/30/04 “Gemini - that shows the true saint in you. :) The guy I'm dealing with is an anal retentive blowhard, and, because of him, I'll never sell on ebay again.” 9:04:05 PM 3/30/04 “It uses SmartMedia, right? I saw a few of those, then figured out how hard the memory is to get.” 9:06:14 PM 3/30/04 “Yep, getting hard to get. What I like about this model is the whole thing with two batteries and memory comes in at 6.3 oz and fits in my shirt pocket. It's the cameria I use for all my backpacking and website pictures.” 9:09:59 PM 3/30/04 “I'm guessing that CompactFlash, xD, and Sony memory stick (or whatever they call it) will be around for a while.” 9:14:16 PM 3/30/04 “I'll be pissed if the xD gets hard to find. The little Olympus I just got uses that.” 9:25:58 PM 3/30/04 “The newer Fujis use xD too. If Olympus and Fuji are using xD, I expect it will be around for awhile. The two cameras I've bid on so far have gone for in the mid-80's. Add the shipping to that, and the prices are from the mid-90's to more than $100. jeez, I'm thinking it would be easier to just order it from Gateway, lol...” 9:51:09 PM 3/30/04 “Yup, I've done it.” 10:11:43 PM 3/30/04 I won! “Well, I finally won an auction. Hopefully I'm not a chump, lol... I bought a used Canon A40 2MP digital camera. The dude is selling it because the body is too scratched up, but he claims it works well otherwise. My winning big was $100.01, and with shipping and PayPal purchase protection, I ended up spending about $118. lol, I guess I am a chump, but it was fun!” 2:29:36 PM 3/31/04 “BTW, this is going to be my backpacking camera...I decided on a Canon because I'm already planning on getting an A70 for our family camera, and they can share the media.” 2:31:20 PM 3/31/04 “Good reasoning, bitpusher. I think 3 out of 7 of us had the Fuji Finepix 2650 on the recent backpacking trip to Baxter State Park. I ended up buying a 128 MB Fuji XD card, a card reader, rechargeable NiMH AA batteries along with charger and a LowePro case. The case attaches nicely to my backpacking straps.” 2:52:01 PM 3/31/04 “I was also trying for a Finepix A205 or a 2650...there are a lot of A205's out there, but people are bidding too much for them. 2650's are a little scarcer for some reason. I think I did okay, but I really won't know until I get the camera.” 2:56:06 PM 3/31/04 “Rec'd this email earlier today from a friend.... ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I got spam containing a cute eBay scam. It looks like they are taking you to an eBay web site, but it's really http://www.technovalue.com/.e If you go there, they ask you for your eBay account info and your credit card info. I don't have an eBay account, but I was curious. Note that it says "your eBay billing informations are out of order", but otherwise it's fairly polished. A good way to collect credit card numbers I guess. >X-Sieve: CMU Sieve 2.2 >Date: Thu, 1 Apr 2004 07:50:55 +0900 >To: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX >Subject: Billing Issues >From: "support@ebay.com" > > >Dear valued eBay member: >It has come to our attention that your eBay billing informations are >out of order. It always amazes me how much this stuff goes for.” 3:08:35 PM 3/31/04 “I try to stay up on all the phishing scams...thanks Tilt. There are a million of them out there. Y2...I know...I was outbid on two A205's by people who apparently hadn't done any research at all...I told my wife today that if I hadn't managed to buy a camera in a week, I was just going to go ahead and buy a new A205 from Gateway, where they're going for $99. The people who won the two auctions I lost were going to end up paying more than that in the end...just nuts.” 3:15:28 PM 3/31/04 “The guy I'm dealing with is an anal retentive blowhard, and, because of him, I'll never sell on ebay again." Buddha Bear 09:04:05 PM 03/30/04 I think that is starting to happen alot, and between people like him and the outright frauds and con artists, ebay is going to have to clean up their act or face some serious problems.” 3:23:19 PM 3/31/04 “Now I have bought a 256MB Sandisk CompactFlash card, a NiMH battery charger, and 8 NiMH batteries for my camera... ...my wife is gonna crap when all this stuff comes in the mail.” 10:23:03 PM 3/31/04 “LOL, it's good for her. I read an article in our paper about ebay scams, it was on the Nation page. Ebay is starting to draw attention. This one was talking about people who aren't really selling anything and entice people to use Western Union transfers and such to pay.” 10:36:33 PM 3/31/04 “Oh, the article said that the ebay people played down the problem and talked about percentages and such in terms saying that there wasn't really a "problem" and that they were looking into it. kinda made ebay look bad.” 10:37:40 PM 3/31/04 “If they admit it's a problem, then people (like me) stop coming to their site and buying stuff. If that happens, then they don't make any money. They really push PayPal hard there, and warn people not to use wire transfers like Western Union. I used a Paypal Credit Card Transfer to pay for my camera. The other purchases were all from other e-tailers using my credit card.” 10:45:51 PM 3/31/04 “Did someone say that smartmedia cards are getting hard to find? That's what my Olympus uses, and I have a paltry 128m plus the 8m it came with. If so, I better get another 256m or so before it's too late.” 3:02:01 AM 4/01/04 “RARE Esbit stove! (Yah right) Damn, if he can find someone stupid enough to believe this might be a WWII model, he deserves whatever he can get for it. There's even a photo that shows the stamping on the bottom that says "made in W. Germany" in ENGLISH. Don't think it's a WWII model...” 3:48:41 PM 4/22/04 He does say this “Description I am not sure if this si a WWII item or if it is a post war model. You get the same model you see in the picture. Buyer pays 2.00 shipping to anywhere in the world. Thanks. I can buy a new one with fuel tabs for $10.00” 3:54:00 PM 4/22/04 “I do think that saying an Esbit stove is RARE is a little bit of misdirection though.” 3:56:39 PM 4/22/04 “Blah...I sent him an email. hehe” 8:11:10 AM 4/23/04 “Let us know what his response is... I should send one too, asking if the Germans in WWII were clairvoyant or something...” 12:20:50 PM 4/23/04 “Post war model? Esbit was founded in 1949, everything they ever did is post war.” 12:25:47 PM 4/23/04 “lol, okay HPM, good info...” 12:27:46 PM 4/23/04 12:30:54 PM 4/23/04 Okay, so I'm an elitist “I know that a lot of the people who bid on stuff on Ebay are morons, but apparently a lot of the sellers are not so bright either. OK, I realize that saxophones are made out of brass, but they are still considered to be woodwinds, okay?” 1:46:01 PM 5/07/04 “Damn. That goes for flutes and piccolos too.” 1:47:51 PM 5/07/04 “slow news day huh bit?” 3:17:23 PM 5/07/04 “Just venting my frustrations...” 3:18:23 PM 5/07/04 “Oh, and clarinets are woodwinds too, EVEN THE METAL ONES...grrrrrr...” 3:35:59 PM 5/07/04 I have no idea what this guy was thinking 3:36:53 PM 5/07/04 “LOL!” 4:13:10 PM 5/07/04
