agreed
Be very careful with these kinds of things... my son fell for it and then when we retracted the bid, the guy gave us negative feedback. And this isn't a new scam, this incident with my son happened four years ago, he actually thought he was going to get a laptop for $5!!!

I found another seller running the "ebook" scam last night, but before I could report them, all their items were de-listed, and their user id was closed.

Y'all be careful. This person was "selling" cameras, playstations, and other electronic equipment. It seems to be a pretty widespread scam.

A seller lists an item, like a camera or a PlayStation, for sale on eBay. When you read the description, assuming you do read the description, you find that they're not selling what the auction is for, they're selling an eBook on how to get the item for free. It's a scam, and it's against eBay policies.

That's interesting....I don't go on ebay often enough to have seen that yet... :-) I will keep my eye out!

Yeah, I bet I have seen that literally 100s of times. It was certainly very widespread when the new video game consoles hit the market.

My guess is that the eBook says: "Sell copies of this eBook to idiots like yourself!"

The worst thing about the EBAY scam was the seller had a great rating until I ordered from him. Now he has had 9 negative comments in the past 2 months! You can't always go by the ratings.

There was a guy on ebay who was selling beer for himself. Basically you would send him $5.00 and he would send you a certificate saying that you bought him a beer. He had over 500 sales.

Hospital worker accused of theft

Associated Press

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Authorities charged a hospital worker with stealing more than $200,000 in medical equipment and selling some of it on eBay.

Brian Pickens, 31, was charged with one count of theft and released Wednesday from the Vanderburgh County Jail on $1,000 bond. More charges are possible, police said.

He was also fired Wednesday from Evansville’s St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he worked for three years as a patient care technician, hospital spokesman Jeff Jones said. The position is a type of nurse’s aide.

Pickens sold some of the supplies on eBay and made as many as 200 transactions within the last year and a half, netting more than $12,000, Evansville police Detective Kirk Pritchett said.

He dealt on the black market in Russia, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Mexico, and in several U.S. states, Pritchett said.
