Another Chapter Is About To Begin
Well, I checked my Email a half hour ago and got the Email I said I'd get today from a possible employer...he welcomed me onboard and said I'd receive an offer package via Email, and sure enough it had arrived. I just gotta sign, fax back the info, and when I get the hardcopy in the mail, do the same and return it, says the man.

Starting April 12, I'll be sucking #&%!$ out of the ground. lol Well, building groundwater remediation systems and O&M of them. It'll be in the Oil City and surrounding area. lol Ahem!

I doubt thw work will be as backbreaking as I currently do, and the pay, well, it's about twice as much as I make now. 8) Looks like I'll be giving my notice tommorrow...boy is that going to feel GOOD!

Congratulations on the job, Buddur. I'm a consultant in the same field. I've worked with my fair share of remediation systems.

3 More Days Of Construction
Backpack more, yam? I doubt it. I've accrued alot of paid time off with my current employer, and they let me take time off w/o pay anytime even. I'll only get 1 week paid vacation and 11 paid holidays with the new employer, not sure about unpaid vacation yet. lol

I'll be taking the whole next week off and may try to hit a trail for a few days, possibly Cranberry Wilderness of WV.

I told them I had tentative plans for July, the Sequoia/King's Canyon hike in CA, but with the 1 week paid vacation, I doubt I would be able to make it. Truely sucks too, because with my currednt employer I'd be able to make the trip, but evidently not now. I've been following that trip thread since the trip was first posted, and after reading the itinerary and then sitting down and looking at the whole trail itinerary on topo, I knew this is a trip of a lifetime. That's pretty much the only disappointment of this new job. Oh well, looks like I'll be doing the same route someday in the future.

I can't wait to get to work.

Congrats Buddur! I used to do a bit of groundwater remediation O&M at my first job. I didn't care for it, but I'm more of a desk-job person anyway. Let me know how it goes!!

Congratulations - but one week of vacation? no backpacker should have to take a job with such limited benefits just to get ahead in life... STRIKE!

On the radio this morning a guy told the DJ that he could not find people to work. He said he needed heavy equipment operators an would pay $17 per hour. Gave his phone number.

The economy is in trouble when there are not enough people to do all the work.

I'm concerned about losing alot of my vacation/sick/personal time when I finally get done with my job in January. I know there's no way my new line of work, or the schooling that comes before it, will allow me to get away as often. BUT, I will be happier day in and day out and that counts for alot. The time that I will be able to go will be all the more precious.

"The economy is in trouble when there are not enough people to do all the work"

Bacpac, the prob may not be lack of people rather a lack of motivated people.

Treebeard's "More Time" or "More $$" thread was a great precursor to this thread
Congrats Buddur
find out how quickly vacation time accrues, or maybe even "comp" time instead of overtime if that is an issue
