“We headed to the desert to explore Harper Flat. One of the largest Kuymeyaay occupied areas in the desert of Anza Borrego. Along the way we crossed through an area that evidence showed, spanned 30 million years in time. The trip report is with the pictures http://community.webshots.com/user/wld257” 9:44:23 PM 3/30/04 “Good desert flowers. Must have been nice to smell them in the spring.” 9:57:34 PM 3/30/04 “Those flowers are awesome : )” 10:11:10 PM 3/30/04 “man those were neat pics WLD. Was that last one of the "little old guy" a picto of Kokopeli?” 10:48:43 PM 3/30/04 “Cool, very cool!” 10:51:42 PM 3/30/04 “The last one is a pictograph found on the Smugglers Canyon Panel. It looks like a Shaman (medicine man) sitting with a blanket around him. The flowers were awesome.. Thanks all, I am glad you enjoyed them.” 11:16:27 PM 3/30/04 “WLD, awesome pictures man! I might have to visit this place sometime.” 11:19:57 PM 3/30/04 “WLD........great pics and wonderful captions...... as usual:) thanks for sharing......” 11:26:15 PM 3/30/04 11:30:42 PM 3/30/04 “Well, your powers of observation are impressive. It took me a minute to see the mineral erosion from that mortero. Ahem... For those of us in the listening audience, could you elaborate a little more on those Yoni formations? 8)” 11:51:44 PM 3/30/04 “Well, we're waiting..... LOL. What?! Just askin'!” 11:52:53 PM 3/30/04 “LOL, well as far as the Yoni, they are an interesting symbol. And if you see things through the eyes of a primitive people. Human life passes through that wonderful ... hmmm... shall we say gateway (when a woman has a baby). And I find it interesting that they associated it with the spirit passing through as well. They felt it was magical. And I tend to agree. It certainly is incredible. (but for entirely different reasons)It is truly astonishing that life passes through a womans body.” 12:50:36 AM 3/31/04 “"Seeing though the eyes of a primitive people." - I kind of got the sense of that from your speculation about the women grinding away on those large boulders. Sun on their skin, wind in their hair...all that. Being so utterly disconnected from the Earth, and from the peoples of that time, it's a shame that is too often lost on me. There's such depth to the culture and people of that time, I'm sure. It's also amazing that so long ago there's a separation between the birth of a physical body and spirit. Elsewhere, other tribal groups that would be a fascinating study are those of the Piutes and Miwoks. They were trading partners between the Eastern and Western Sierra. One of their main trade routes was through Mono Pass (you've probably been there). The Piutes habituated the Owens Valley area while the Miwoks populated the Yosemite area. I just don't see or hear of wilderness artifacts between the Piutes and Miwoks. Again, it's mostly because I haven't looked closely.” 1:45:34 AM 3/31/04 “Great pics, trip report, and reflections! I need to make more trips to Anza Borrego.” 1:50:41 AM 3/31/04
