Cesar Chavez' Birthday - March 31

“No school today. It is a paid holiday for many of California State employees. It's OK since we can afford it since we pass all those bond measures to help education. Do any other states observe his birthday?

BTW. Got the word on our campus budget cut for 2004-2005...not good. Our campus has had the budget cut 28% over the past 3 or 4 years, now another 10%.”

“Cesar Chavez was known for organizing farm workers and the most well-known thing they did was promote the boycott of table grapes. Buddha's link summarizes things.

He was controversial during the sixties, but he is essentially the "Martin Luther King" of the hispanic community. Our campus has the "Cesar Chavez Center for Higher Education".

The average public school kid in California probably knows a lot about Cesar Chavez.”
