Marmot Mountain Works has the '03 Precip shells on sale now. The basic Precip jacket is $69.95. The North Shore (Precip plus fleece liner) is $129.95.

For some reason, I can't link directly to the sale items. Click on the link below, go to "Sale Specials" & scroll down to Outerwear. The Precips are listed under "Other Waterproof/Breathable"

I picked up a Precip jacket last night at that price. Went to Galyans to try different sizes, then they matched the price. Good enough for me.

Hi ya, lyra...

I didn't know about their price-matching till one of my friends told me last week. I was surprised they matched an internet price. Most places won't. I hadn't planned on buying last night, but a $70 precip was too hard to turn down.

Hey T Mac,
They're supposed to match on price plus 10%! Hope you got it...

Indy - I didn't push for it. Bright boy that I am, I printed the anorak description and price instead of the jacket page. They took my word for it that the jacket was also on sale, so I didn't want to test my luck. :)

What a coinkidink! I just bought those yesterday. Might treat myself to the jacket for xmas.

On another note - I asked a salesperson the difference between a $39 dollar SD & a $79 REI waterproof pants. He said "durability" and showed me nothing else.

I was suspicious so I asked another salesperson. He said breathability and then showed me the Precip stuff.

Should have tipped him.

Edit: is the jacket going for $70???????

pinky, my son loved it and hiked many days in the rain out at philmont without any problems. i aslo bought him the pants but didn't get as good of a deal with those. i will probably invest in a jacket before long. they are very light weight.

Ewk... I was talking about whether or not they'd have any special deals the day after Thanksgiving, not just THIS sale...!

I've met a few people who seem to like that jacket... I have a cheaper one, but it doesn't have pit zips. (I hike hot, so I think that would be a great asset...)

edit: my cheaper jacket is a Columbia, not a Marmot...

The REI Element is a good jacket. It has pit zips that run from your elbow up and down to your rib cage.

I'm not sure, but I think that's the one that Thinkbubelz has... :-) I hadn't considered the pit zip factor when I bought mine-- it had the vents in the back, but obviously, that works for squat when wearing a backpack....

How would you compare the REI Elements to the Precip?

pink - I have both an Elements jacket (can't remember the model) and the Precip jacket. The Elements jacket is a few ounces heavier, not quite as breathable, but it is more durable and a better windbreaker. I carry the Precip Spring through Fall, then I switch to the Elements jacket for Winter. Both waterproofing materials have worked fine.

OK.
I will check on what type of Columbia Jacket I have--the lack of pit zips is making me think i should trade mine in for the precip. (only worn mine for a few months--it's practically new...)
