I stopped at Goodwill today and found something I actually needed for a change! Eddie Bauer replacement filters for the Hydrate filter bottles . Brand new in the box ,the primary filter and 2 pre-filters for 2 bucks! I dont have the Eddie Bauer bottle but I have a Lifespring 22 oz filter bottle and the Bauer cartridges fit it perfectly!

If anybody in the baltimore area is interested it was the Goodwill Store on Rolling Road across the street from Security Squre Mall .They have about 8-10 left.
I also saw a nice pair of mens insulated nylon snow pants ,with leg zips and all ,size large I think for 4 bucks I think. Too small fer me!

Hey streamweaver, I work just up the street from that store (I'm at Social Security). Haven't stopped in there in a while. You live or work around there?

beekeeping?
twiggy - I started about 15 or so years ago. Stopped for several years after the mites killed all my hives. Started back up about three years ago when one of my younger nephews starting asking me questions about it.
We caught several wild swarms, after cleaning up my old equipment, put then into hives, and started again.
My dad, nephew, and I have three hives going strong now.
We'll be putting honey supers on very soon, like next week or the week after. All that honey is for us!
I've got it made now! My nephew and dad are doing most of the work, ha ha, and I'm eating the last of last years crop now.
I love local honey! I'm convinced it helps my hayfever, and tastes dang good too.
The PO just about has a fit if you try to mail honey to someone. Something about them worrying about breakage and that sweet sticky stuff gumming up their equipment. Hee hee.

StoveStomper: That's awesome. Never realized you did the beekeeping thing. I have always been interested in all that.. (ever since I watched Yule's Gold).

StreamWeaver: Congratulations on the score! I have to say, going to the goodwill store -- I would never expect to find anything other than a few old suits, or shoes!

Streamweaver - yup, know the area you are talking about. I work here (sitting at SSA right now), and live in Parkville. For now. Just got a contract on a place in northern Baltimore County. Still a heck of a lot closer to you than most people on this site. MarkO lives in Towson (Rogers Forge) and Geobeet lives in southern PA (I think that is right).

I set up a trip at the end of this month to hike the southern part of the AT in MD, if you are interested. Check out the trips page - see the links at the very top of every TT page.

Where do you think all that "perfect" stuff comes from in thrift stores? Mostly from dead people. Their relatives clean out their closets and take it all to Goodwill.

It's better that it went to a thrift store than throwing everything away, like the daughters of my now deceased neighbor are doing. I did get a nice roasting pan and some plants and such, my neighbor got a full set of really nice leather luggage, some nice wool blankets and quilts. Another neighbor took all the prescription medications that were thrown out. Major league painkillers and such, since she fell and broke her shoulder 2 years ago and it didn't heal properly. She died of complications following a quadruple bypass. She was chainsmoker too, so everything textile absorbed the smell. I did score a bottle of vermouth and a bottle of rum, too. The neighbor who took the meds got a couple of gallons of rum (sheesh!) lots of whiskey, vermouth, wine, vodka, you name it. The daughters are throwing everything out.

The only time your gear goes to the thrift store is when your wife cleans out the gear room when you die, to make room for her boyfriend's stuff.

Wanna make a good gear score?
Wait 'til a friend of yours who is a real gearhead dies, then wait about a week and visit the thrift store nearest his house. Wave to his wife as you pass her going through the door.

Fine, I'll be dead. I won't care too much at that point. Hell, I will be ashes blowing in the wind (more likely spinning down the toilet) by then.

You can have my gear when you strip it from my cold stiffening corpse!

I'll be dead. I won't care. Carve me up for dinner. Turn me into a hat stand. Hang me by the neck on the front porch until my head separates from the body. I'm dead. it doesn't matter.

To me anyway. The authorities might be a little peeved, but that's your problem, not mine.
