COME ON...a Libbie "HOW TO" show...HMM...here let me offer some tips

How many times can you talk about FEELING things are wrong in the absence of any evidence? What happened is the thing that always happens with whiney libbies, they could only spew the hatered of the left for so long. Once you start calling for people to be killed (easier than defeating them in the arena of ideas) etc....what did you have left?

And since this is an Err America thread, and Al Franken was an Err America star, lets hear from him:

rosey, rather than a knee jerk attack on stick for something you don't wish to believe, why not do a very simple web search on google?

.....He recalled writing a skit called "Seamen on Broadway" that was rejected from the Hasty Pudding show "by some preppie so they could take some other preppie's skit." Franken started to smile again, but his tone was serious, too serious. "It's not preppies, cause I'm a preppie myself. I just don't like homosexuals. If you ask me, they're all homosexuals in the Pudding. Hey, I was glad when that Pudding homosexual got killed in Philadelphia." The smile became so broad it pushed his eyes shut. He couldn't stand it any longer. "Put that in, put that in," Franken laughed, leaning over the desk. "I'd love to see that in The Crimson." ......

Rosey, like it or not, not all homophobes are conservatives. Leftist wingnuts like Franken are out there, it's just frowned upon around here to point out their faults.

But since you wanted sources and didn't want to google it, here is the reference:

Richard S. Lee, "Live from New York: It's Al Franken," Harvard Crimson, April 16, 1976.

Why would I post a quote from that douchebag if I couldn't back it up with sources? I may be an #&%!$, but I don't have to make stuff up to bolster my arguments.

I just noticed Stove went one step farther and linked to the entire article. If anyone reads it they'll notice it wasn't taken out of context or edited.

So, we're going to hold what people said 30 years ago against them?

Perhaps you didn't read very clearly my thoughts about Frankin earlier in this thread? Maybe in the future you should, at the very least, be familiar with a persons stance on something before stating something that is not as effective as you'd like.

Hasty generalizations, assumptions and ad homniem, as we all know, do nothing to support you claim. Please feel free to continue to use them; makes no matter to me.

Funny, you didn't ask that type of question when Violin posted the Coulter quote.
So by your reasoning, one should not be held responsible for comments made on the record if enough time has passed? In fact, following that logic, you should be allowed to make those kinds of comments, and then get a radio show (albeit a failed one), and go on the air and blast other radio show hosts for their comments (because after all, the mean things you may have said thirty years ago don't count). Or write books with the title "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" dealing with all the mean spirited rhetoric Conservatives use.
Interesting line of thought.

My question was a request for clarification of what the time lines should be for holding a person to their statements. The request was in fact made of Stove; however, the comment was not restricting to just him and only him -- thus opening the door for your comment. It obviously was interesting enough for you to believe that you could chime in; therefore, the wording of the comments succeeded in its goal of generating additional comments from other posters.

The reasons for the post is very obvious; there are people who change their minds, or opinions on matter and issues. If we hold everyone, or just the "public people" to the failed metric of "what ever you have said 30 years ago can come back and bite you in the ass", then discourse on the important issues will fail to progress. Secondly, if we use this failed metric as standard on this board, then most of us will have to watch what we say as well. All posters at some point in time post something less than their "A" game; it would be a shame this place became a place where posters ran around, whacking other posters all day with these comments.

In closing, your statement that my omission shows support for the claim of "people should not be held accountable for things said" is an assumption, unsupported and incorrect. The rest of your statement commits a strawman fallacy, which of course cannot be used to support the claim made. Besides the additional prejudicial language in your statement -- as to Frankin's book, or other works of "art"; I could really care less what he, or others like him produce, so my comments on any of his "art" cannot be objective and are irrelevant.

In many respects, we should be asking the folks who believe the same things today that they did 30 years ago why they're in such a rut!

Personally, I would question anyone who hasn't modified their view, given all that we know today that we didn't 30 years ago.

It's not necessarily a bad thing to change one's mind!

LOS ANGELES, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Three months after filing for bankruptcy, liberal talk-radio network Air America said on Monday that a New York real estate investor has offered to buy the company, but its best-known host, Al Franken, will deliver his last broadcast next month.

The tentative deal, outlined in a letter of intent by Air America to sell its business to SL Green Realty Corp. founder and chairman Stephen Green, is the latest twist in the tortured history of the radio venture Franken helped launch in 2004 as a voice for the political left.

"Air America will soon be under new ownership. Thank God," the comedian and best-selling author told listeners at the top of his show, adding that the last day of "The Al Franken Show" would be Feb. 14.

No specific reason was given for Franken's departure, but he is considering a run for the U.S. Senate from his home state of Minnesota next year. Franken said the network and its audience would be in "great hands" under Green's ownership.

In a statement, the real estate mogul said, "I'm purchasing a majority ownership in Air America with the intention of making it a successful business that returns a profit."

His brother, Mark Green, a former New York City public advocate who ran unsuccessfully for mayor against Michael Bloomberg, also will play a role in overseeing the radio venture, according to Air America's statement.

Air America Radio Gets OK for Auction
Associated Press 02.12.07, 1:16 PM ET

Air America Radio, the liberal news and talk radio network, has won bankruptcy court approval to sell its assets at an auction Friday, starting with a $4.25 million bid from a consortium of purchasers formed by the chairman of SL Green Realty Corp.

Judge Robert Drain of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan on Friday said the consortium can receive a $150,000 breakup fee if their offer is topped at the auction.

Competing bids, which must start at least at $4.6 million, are due by Thursday with a 10 percent deposit. Bidding will increase in at least $50,000 increments. A sale hearing will be held immediately following Friday's auction.

Air America Radio's parent company, New York-based Piquant LLC, said the sale would allow it to pay off its $3.25 million debtor-in-possession loan and provide $500,000 to pay creditor claims and another $500,000 to cure certain contracts.

By setting a minimum bid for other potential bidders, the lead bidder - which includes New York-based SL Green Realty Corp. (nyse: SLG - news - people ) chairman and founder Stephen L. Green and DIP lender Democracy Allies LLC - has increased the chances that the liberal talk-radio network will receive top dollar for its assets, the filing said.

The proposed sale, the filing said, will enable the company to keep broadcasting and avoid "significant" rejection damage claims that would accrue if it was forced to liquidate.

Air America has been struggling to find a buyer since it filed for Chapter 11 protection on Oct. 13, 2006, listing assets of $7.8 million and debts of $19.8 million.

Piquant bought Air America from Progress Media Inc. in May 2004 for $705,000 plus existing liabilities.

Air America recently announced that its high-profile host, Al Franken, will be leaving in mid-February. Franken is considering running for a U.S. Senate seat in his home state of Minnesota.

CREDITORS SUE AIR AMERICA
Bloomberg

February 15, 2007 -- Air America Radio creditors say they are the victims of a "bait and switch" that may cost them payments they deserve under the terms of a $4.25 billion takeover bid for the bankrupt company, according to court documents.

The filing by the unsecured creditors in U.S. Bankruptcy court in New York said the agreement with Stephen L. Green may result in other lenders being handed out proceeds before them, going against a previous agreement.

The offer by Green, known as a stalking-horse bid, marked the beginning of an auction process for Air America, which sought court protection in October after a creditor froze New York-based parent Piquant LLC's bank accounts.

Piquant said it owed $20.3 million, including about $361,000 to comedian and author Al Franken, the network's best-known host. Franken's last show was yesterday.

The creditors filed an objection to the agreement and said the providers of debtor-in-possession financing after the bankruptcy had agreed to carve out $500,000 from its portion of the sale proceeds to distribute to the unsecured creditors.

Delusions of Grandeur... This mess is selling for 4.25 million.
