But, talk radio isn't what it used to be. I really like consumer affairs shows like the Clark Howard Show and money programs like Bob Brinker or Dave Ramsey.

And I really like local programming. I even listen to stations as far away as Boston just because they are locally produced.

But the other day, I scanned through the stations and found like 14 with Rush on and another 5 with that O'Reilly guy.

I'd like to see a little competition myself.”

Air America Losing Audience to Limbaugh, Hannity

Air America, the liberal alternative to so-called "right wing radio," is "gaining traction" in key markets, a recent report in the Wall Street Journal claimed.

But according to a Jan. 17 report in Mediaweek, the network headlined by Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo and Randi Rhodes is actually losing listeners in its home base of New York City.

The magazine reports that Air America's New York outlet WLIB "dropped from a 1.4 overall share to a 1.2" in the fall Arbitron ratings book.
Meanwhile New York's WABC, the flagship station of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, had its best ratings since 1994, with a 4.5 overall share.

The Journal went so far as to claim that Air America's Rhodes "is tied with conservative Sean Hannity for the talk-show host that listeners spent the most time with each week in the fall season."

Rhodes "points out that she reached that level after just a few months of national exposure, and without the television show and book Mr. Hannity has to boost his public profile."

But the New York Daily News reported recently that Hannity averaged 7.3 percent of the audience in the key month before the election, making him No. 1 in the city and marking the first time a WABC afternoon show had cracked 7 percent in nearly a decade.

In fact, a few weeks before Ms. Rhodes began boasting to the Journal, her boss at Air America was congratulating Hannity's home base.

"WABC is the story here," Air America President Jon Sinton told the News. "The huge billboard and TV campaign they did for Sean shows you the power of television and marketing for radio, and hats off to them. They got the numbers."”

Jerry Springer Joins Air America

Daytime talk-show host and former mayor of Cincinnati Jerry Springer has signed a deal with the liberal Air America Radio network, taking his current radio show, "Springer on the Radio,” to a national audience. Springer is set to go live on Friday, April 1st.

Air America Radio, which is currently heard on 51 stations across the county and XM and SIRIUS satellite radio, made the deal official earlier today.

"Jerry Springer is both an established media superstar and a life-long committed political progressive," said CEO of Air America Radio Danny Goldberg. "He brings to Air America a unique and powerful voice that is a major step in developing our network. Jerry Springer's political voice, which now will be heard nationally, is a vital addition to progressive participation in the American conversation."

"Springer on the Radio" will air weekdays on Air America Radio from 9AM – 12NOON. Air America Radio currently is developing new programming for "Unfiltered” hosts Rachel Maddow and Chuck D.

"I’m happy people are pleased with our show – and the opportunity now to join Air America – is an honor," said Jerry Springer. "Progressive, populist voices need to be a part of our nation’s dialog. I hope I can make a contribution.”

HBO MOVIE SHOWS RADIO 'AIR AMERICA' CHAOS

HBO is set to air a behind the scenes look at the launching of liberal radio network AIR AMERICA.

The DRUDGE REPORT has obtained a director's cut of LEFT OF THE DIAL, a grossly entertaining docu-drama of life on the other side of the AIR AMERICA microphone.

The doubts. The lies. The bounced checks. The heartbreak.

The viewer is taken upclose to witness the ugly business of media ambition.

The main character, Evan Cohen, founding chairman and main investor, is depicted as a complete fraud.

The documentary shows Cohen arriving in the middle of night at AIR AMERICA offices to sign over the company and disappear again, but not before lying about how many ads have been sold and how much money is the bank [zero].

Dead Air.

It shows how AIR AMERICA executives lied and lied again about not bouncing checks to their Chicago and Los Angeles affiliate owners. [The network was quickly thrown off the stations.]

The film captures AIR AMERICA staff first learning about the Chicago and LA nightmare by reading a DRUDGE REPORT exclusive on their computers.

It shows midday host Al Franken at a staff meeting being told there is no money left, hilariously, just moments after ranting about George Bush's ethics.

The HBO crew is told to shut down their cameras -- but they don't -- and the 'We're Broke!' meeting is filmed raw.

LEFT OF THE DIAL shows an angry meeting of the writing staff being told how money was deducted from their checks to pay for health care -- but the money was never paid to the HMO and they were never covered!

Host Janeane Garofalo looks suicidal in nearly ever scene which she appears.

"What am I going to do, just ramble on and on," panics stand-up-comic-morning-drive-host Marc Maron, as he deals with the reality of becoming a talkshow host.

But every drama must have a hero: Enter Randi Rhodes.

Highlight. The camera captures pm drive Rhodes in her classic PMS mood, but this time at home, in her newly rented NYC apartment.

Wearing a leopard-spotted robe, bra-less, smoking and crying "I'm so f*ckign lost," the relocated Floridian steals the show.

Talking to herself in the bedroom mirror, Rhodes whispers "You can do this."

She bemoans throughout how she is not being featured in any AIR AMERICA press. "No CNN. No USATODAY. No YAHOO wire story." How she is the only one hired at AIR AMERICA that's even been on radio before.

When she attempts to introduce herself to director Michael Moore [rushing out of a Franken Radio interview], Rhodes quickly realizes he does not even know who she is.

The heartbreaking scene is easily a frontrunner for this year's EMMYs.

The HBO film is set for air March 31.

Biased radio is not my thing. The only reason I lost brain cells from listening to the likes of Hannity, Rush and that ilk was because I used to use a laundramat where they played that drivel non-stop. I really have no use for that stuff...”

He's on Israeli National Radio. I've been listening on line every day and I must say it is great radio. I get informed about the middle east, what life is like in Israel and about Judaism at the same time.”
