Again, I don't know any liberal who listens to that tripe.

Exactly.

The assumption that seems to be made by many on this thread is that a failure of the Air America Tripe actually means something.

yeah, it means all the little libbies on pennlive.com that argued Air Amerika would rule the airwaves were wrong, and when I told them it would go under in just a few years, I was right. My perception of reality trumped theirs. And my reason for saying that? Because liberals have nothing of value to listen to - they just #&%!$ and moan and nobody wants to listen to that. It means I win, libbies lose. It means something to me phaedrus. Bless you my son.

I would actually like it if radio became more localized and more consumer oriented.

I am a big radio listener and I remember when most of the stations had local content. It was nice to hear what was going on in Chicago or St. Louis or New Orleans.

But with consolidation of the industry, a lot of these local shows ended and most stations became repeaters for a bunch of largely conservative political shows.

They probably make money, but I liked it better when I didn't hear the same five shows on 30 of the stations I can pick up.

So, I liked Air America just for variety sake. But I have to say that NPR kicked its ass.

Air America To Declare Bankruptcy, But Progressive Radio Remains Strong

Air America Radio will announce a major restructuring on Friday, which is expected to include a bankruptcy filing, three independent sources have told ThinkProgress.

Air America could remain on the air under the deal, but significant personnel changes are already in the works. Sources say five Air America employees were laid off yesterday and were told there would be no severance without capital infusion or bankruptcy. Also, Air America has ended its relationship with host Jerry Springer.

The right wing is sure to seize on Air America’s financial woes as a sign that progressive talk radio is unpopular. In fact, Air America succeeded at creating something that didn’t exist: the progressive talk radio format. That format is now established and strong and will continue with or without Air America. Indeed, many of the country’s most successful and widely-syndicated progressive talk hosts — Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller, for instance — aren’t even associated with Air America.

Radio giant Clear Channel is so committed to progressive talk radio that, this week, it will announce a partnership with the Center for American Progress and MSS Inc. to conduct a nationwide search for the next Progressive Talk Radio Star.

UPDATE: Air America responds.

If Air America had filed for bankruptcy every time someone rumored it to be doing so, we would have ceased to exist long ago; it may be frustrating to some that this hasn’t happened. No decision has been taken to make any filing of any kind, we are not sure of the source of these rumors and frankly can not respond to every rumor in the marketplace.

UPDATE II: Comments have been temporarily closed to decrease stress on our server, which is under load. We’ll open them back up when traffic returns to normal levels.

Moonie, if this is what makes you feel like you win, you're welcome to the victory, as far as I'm concerned.

Heck, revel in it, if it makes you happy.

Congratulations.

For me, it's a good example of someone trying to make money with a bad marketing strategy, a certain eventuality come to pass. Seeing someone crow about it just seems kind of pyrrhic and sad.

of course, if Rush Limbaugh went bankrupt you'd be singing a different song. this is about ideology and perception of reality. my prediction that they would fail was correct, and it was based on observations about the ideologies.

it was you indicating that it didn't mean something. my response was just an explanation as to why it did mean something, something you liberals need to hear - your perception of reality is incorrect - liberal ideology is based on feelings, not logic - logic is interesting and makes for good conversation, whining and finger pointing, which is all the left does

Feel free to call me wrong, but I correctly predicted their early demise from before they went on air when liberals told me I was so very wrong, I correctly predicted Bush would beat John Kerry by at least 3 points 3 1/2 years before the election, when liberals told me I was wrong right up to the election (at that time, Kerry wasn't even a candidate), I correctly predicted in 2000 that there would soon be an attack on the continental United States by a significant enemy within 2 years and we need a President in office who would stand up to them, when liberals told be I was paranoid, I correctly predicted that the Minutemen would not use deadly for their 1st month of operations on our border, when a liberal on here insisted I was so very far off. These example weren't cheap commentary after the fact - they were observations based on my correct perception of reality, a perception which you are diametrically opposed. So go ahead and tell me I'm wrong. The facts are on my side - the emotions on yours.

Hey, Carnac, what the hell are you doing on TrailTalk? You oughta be in a circus, guessing fat ladies weights or something. It's almost supernatural, like you're a prophet or something.

Say, you weren't helping the boys in the White House predict how the Iraqis would welcome us with open arms, were ya?

HMM and all the letters we see that are not blocked by the lib media...those are fake? I hear the media and the lib socialists say the Iraqis hate us but then I talk to my buds who are coming back.

They seem to say the only people who hate us are the Iranians, Paletinians, Syrians etc who are insurgents (Islamic Terrorists (I know it is redundant)).

But Hey Kleetn you probably know better. (LOL)

Air America struggles to stay afloat

By Rick Bird
Post staff reporter

Liberal and conservative media blogospheres have been rampant this week with reports that fledgling progressive talk radio network Air America is on the verge of filing bankruptcy. Reports also speculate on the possibility of a pull-out by major investors and a revamped lineup.

The network has endured almost constant financial problems since its launch in April 2004 as it has attempted to pull off a first in the radio world - an overnight launch of a full-fledged radio network dedicated to a single genre, in this case liberal talk.

Amidst the apparent Air America turmoil, it was revealed recently that the network has dropped Jerry Springer's Cincinnati-based talk show (WSAI-AM 1360) from its regular network lineup to be replaced effective Monday with Sam Seder, 9 a.m.-noon. However, Springer's show will still be offered by Air America through its syndication arm. Officials at the Springer show's Cincinnati sales team say almost all their 50-some affiliates are staying with the show, while Springer will be dropped at the New York affiliate in favor of Seder's show.

Other Air America problems have surfaced. Pundit and former "Saturday Night Live" writer Al Franken, the network's highest-profile star, told a New York newspaper this week he has not been paid in several weeks on what is reportedly a $2 million-a-year contract.

The New York Post reported that Rob Glaser, the Real Networks founder who had invested money in Air America to keep it afloat, has pulled out. Air America also reportedly laid off six employees this week.

One source involved with the network's news operation told The Cincinnati Post that Air America dropped its Associated Press affiliation last month because it could not pay the AP's fees.

An Air America publicist released a statement this week that did not deny a possible bankruptcy filing, reading in part, "If Air America had filed for bankruptcy every time someone rumored it to be doing so, we would have ceased to exist long ago. No decision has been taken to make any filing of any kind."

On his radio show Thursday, Franken professed to no inside knowledge about a possible filing and assured listeners even it happened, the programming would continue. "I'm still flying on United," Franken quipped, referring to the airline that had gone through bankruptcy.

Franken also joked, "I'm so confidant of this I went out and bought another sports car."

You seem to care more about this network than any Democrats.

As long as we've got NPR, we're okay.

What really makes me happy when I listen to NPR is that StoveStomper's tax dollars are paying for my listening enjoyment.

:)

Now if I could only get me some of that welfare.

This is probably the 100th time I've asked this question here on TT.

WHY do you lefties believe in Socialism? I am just so confused.. to me, the options are:

1: Depend upon someone else your entire life for everything.. ie.,, your whole existence is tied to these folks., vs.

2: You are in control of your future!!!!

WHOAAA... What confuses me is why there is even an issue here?

WHAT.. someone actually WANTS the "buearacracy" to control / determine their future??? WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE? WHAT #^#$#$& PLANET DID YOU COME FROM???...
