“link This site has panoramic pics of the Matterhorn, Whitney, Pyrennes, and lots of other places. You pan 360 with the mouse. Thanks to Cocoa Williams for finding this. Cocoa is longtime reader, but only posts on the sports threads. He and I work together.” 10:34:54 AM 4/02/04 “cool, but which number is Whitney? the pyrenees? etc..” 10:38:03 AM 4/02/04 “ahhh I see, there is another page on the site.” 10:38:43 AM 4/02/04 “At the right it listes the Archives. Most of the ones I looked at were 2003.” 10:39:32 AM 4/02/04 “I was checking out various methods of capturing these images a while back. One that sounded feasible consisted of putting your camera on a tripod, pointing up at a reflector. Then there was software to convert the image into a 360 pan. You could go with digital or use film and then scan -- either way. - No extra moving parts. - Relatively lightweight. - 360-degree pan on a single frame. (Some of these gizmos involved a 50-pound steamer trunk full of stuff!) I was wondering about having a webcam set up that way.... with microphones so you could hear the birds chirping and whatnot. Individual visitors to a website could view whatever section of the current image they wanted to see... pan and zoom (providing the image was hi-res enough and you had the bandwidth)... Realtime Immersive Media, donchaknow.” 11:18:03 AM 4/02/04
