Are you new? I think I would have notice somebody working in AK and NM, considering NM is home and Fairbanks AK, my home of 7 years still has my heart.

Check out the Pecos Wilderness Rendie trip in late Sept

yeah, found this place a few weeks ago, lurked around far a while and signed up.

Pecos Wilderness is awesome! Trailriders wall is one of my favorite places in the world. Think my last trip there was '99. I need to go back.

Alaska... I'm doing the applying through the Gov't thing. Hoping to hear soon about a summer job. Made the short list at at lest two places so far. Crater Lake and Denali National Parks. Denali would be by far my first choice. Worked there before & loved it.

Fairbanks is an interestig town. Where did you live there? What did you do?

I'm a pathologist, was at Fairbanks Memorial. We lived off Farmers Loop in a really cool rental, sinking house on 16 acres the first year. Above Farmers Loop for 3 and in a neighborhood between Chena Hot Springs Rd and Birch Hill the last three.

My last year there my friend and I skied several nights a week at Birch Hill XC and logged about 125 nights, Mid Oct-Mid Apr. He still hasn't found anybody else to replace me. I left my canoe with him, he's always looking for canoe or ski partners, especially late evening, because of work.

Cool, I've got a pretty decent idea of where you used to live. I learned Fairbanks pretty well my second day in Alaska. I was driveing through and was looking for a grocery storebefore I went south to Denali. Wasn't too concerned about asking for directions because I was having fun just exploring the town.

Only made it up there once a month to hit up the food store. Went to some fun parties. It is kinda strange that it is light so much in the middle of the summer. Bonfires are totally differetn when it isn't dark. I guess I spent most of my time in Fairbanks either at the grocery store or around the college campus. There was a great little bookstore, Gulliver's I think, that I stopped in every time I was in town and drank coffee and looked at the used books.

I am spaced out on the names of the bars we went to. I've slept since then. One was in a little town just south of Fairbanks, something Eagle?

Do you ever make it up to Taos? That town is pretty cool sometimes, and Wierd and surreal others. I'm a little hippie sometimes, but I can't handle a lot of the people in Taos.

I get to Taos when I can. Love to XC ski up there, backpack to Wheeler etc. The people in Taos, well, its Taos, will always be Taos.

South of Fairbanks was North Pole. The popular bar for tourist was the Howling Dog Saloon. Gullivers Books was by far the best place for AK books. If they had coffee, must have been the one on college road, not the mall by the hospital.

the howling dog saloon. what a great place that was. I know that my friends and myself went there a lot. You know that they last year that I was up there 2002 that it closed because of the owner passing away. I don't know if they opened it up again. I know that it was not open that summer. There were many of wild nights and the howling dog!
