That's ridiculous! Those characters always rub your back or shoulder when you get a picture with them. He probably had his hands on their shoulders and the oversized costume hands is what touched their boobs when he touched their shoulders. Ridiculous!

Then again, what a sad job to have being a 36 year old dude...

The mom was probably thinking...Those things haven't been touched like that since the kid was born. How sexy and thrilling to have a stranger in public doing it as I pose for a picture. My husband will never know.

NS that is a terrible and insensitive thing to say! You too Dub. Some people freeze when faced with certain situations like that. Especially if that victim had been has been a victim of child molestationl.

It's not a sad job to have, those people get paid!!! I was a disney baby, my mom and dad worked at disneyland, they made relatively big bucks at the time, for what some would consider menial jobs.

I guess I didn't consider that POV Tango. If someone made me uncomfortable like that I would give him a good kick in the nuts. I guess I assume that most people won't freeze but defend themselves. Point noted.

Some Facts on Sexual Assault.
In 2000, there were 261,000 victims of sexual assault. 114,000 of thse were victims of sexual assault, 55,000 were victims of attempted rape, and 92,000 were victims of completed rape.
One out of every six American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetimes. A total of 17.7 million women have been victims of these crimes.
In 1999 nine out of ten rape victims were female.
About 3% of American men, or about 2.78 million, have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime.
About 44% of rape victims are the age of 18. Three out of twenty rape victims are under the age of twelve.
Blacks are about 10% more likely to be attacked than whites.
Prosecuting is not easy, nor does it ensure a conviction. Out of the 28% of rapes that are reported to the police, there is only a 16.3% chance the rapist will end up in prison.
Factoring in unreported rapes, only about 5% or one in twenty rapists will ever spend a day in jail.
In 1999 only a little over one fourth of rapes were reported.
Approximately 62% of female rape victims in 2000 knew their assailants.
Approximately 43% are raped by a friend or aquaintance, 17% by a partner or significant other, 34% by a stranger and 2% by a relative.
In about one out of three sexual assaults, the perpetrator was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
Only about 6% of rapes involved the use of a weapon. 80% of victims reported the use of physical force.
About 4 out of 10 sexual assaults take place in the victim's own home. 2 in 10 take place in the home of a friend take place in the home of a friend, neighbor or relative. 1 in 10 take place in outside, away from the home and 1 in 12 take place in a parking garage.
43% of rapes occur between 6pm and midnight. 24% occur between midnight and 6am and the other 33% take place between 6am and 6pm.
Ages 12-34 are the highest risk years, but risk peaks in the late teens. Girls aged 16-19 are four times more likely to be raped.
The truth is that no one is safe from sexual assault.

As I'm in college I can agree with your statistics Tango. I've heard many stories of rape from friends. Most of the time it involves alcohol and sometimes alcohol plus another drug. Most of the time they never expected it to go that far. Hardly any of them report it.
Dub
6:12:22 PM
4/02/04

The sad thing is their friends never look out for the overly-intoxicated girls as they themselves are trying to hook up. This, in my opinion, is why it happens so much--they don't look out for each other.
Dub

It is all the rapists' fault. I should be able to be any way I choose and shouldn't be sexually battered. It is not the woman's fault.
Tango
6:15:43 PM
4/02/04

A rape occurs every six minutes in the U.S., according to the FBI Rape is a crime of violence, anger, and power. It is not motivated by sexual desire. Rapists use sexual violence as a weapon to control, humiliate, and hurt their victims. Anyone can become a victim, because victims are not selected for their attractiveness, appearance, or behavior. Sexual assault of any type is never a victim’s fault. No one ever “asks for” or deserves to be sexually assaulted.
Tango
6:19:14 PM
4/02/04

No, it's not their fault, but it isn't intelligent to get drunk off your ass with a bunch of strangers present and no one to look out for you. That's like owning a bank and leaving the door open on the expectation that it's wrong to steal and people shouldn't steal your money because it is wrong. You leave the bank open and make it easy, it's gonna happen, regardless of what's right. Making it easy for someone to steal your money is just stupid just as making it easy to become a rape victim is incredibly stupid.

So guys get to have all the fun (I don't drink so I don't really know) get drunk, puke and wake up with a hangover because...why exactly? I am being facetous. It's the old double standard rearing its ugly head again.
Tango

Who says it can't happen to guys? It would be reported less than female rapes....how many guys want to be known as the dude that got drunk off his ass and his buddies didn't watch him and some dude name Frances took him to the back and packed some fudge? It's not gonna be reported or spoken of ever.
Dub

I've investigated only 2 male victim rape cases in 10 years.

Women need to be more in touch with their anger and they would be better off.

I think men would have a few more second thoughts if teenage girls were taught a mantra of "hunt them down and bobbit-em while they sleep" in public schools.

Tango - I had read the article several times before posting. My comment was based upon the article. I understood it to say:
1. the the girl told her mother
2. the girl and the father reported the incident
3. the article refers to the victim (the girl) and not to the victims.

Therefore, it appears that the mother, while involved, was not considered a victim. So I consider my comment to be reasonable! It was intended to be a humerous way of pointing out that something was missing from the article, and, as such, I do not feel that it is being insensitive.

I do not condone the man's actions. If he intentionally did that to the girl, I'm for a hanging.

My guess is that some information is missing from this article. Perhaps the woman is being kept out of it to improve the probability of a conviction.

Could Fox be playing an April Fool joke. I doubt it, but the article is dated April 2, 2004 and the incident was reported on February 29th. I have been unable to find a confirmation of the article.
--------------------------
Incidently, it appears that the man was not charged with rape. Yet that is the subject to which this string has turned.

Also, it appears that he has been convicted. Can't we wait and let him have his day in court?

My first reaction is to think money grubbin lawsuit. It definitely could have happened and if it did I hope the guy is severly punished. I also hope that Disney doesn't pay a penny unless they were severly negligent (complaints in the past with no followup etc...) On the face of it, having worked in costumes, it would seem to me that those hands are awfully bulky, he may not have known that he was "massaging" their breasts. But not seeing the costume, he could have had just regular size gloves.

"The girl later learned that the costumed character had done the same thing to her mother with his left hand, according to the report."
A victim she (the mother) is but she may have decided not to press charges, it's her decision. Many women do not report sexual battery.

Sexual battery, comes in many degrees, just because it was not rape does not mean it wasn't sexual battery (the legal term in Florida). Lewd and lacivious acts also come under the state statute of Sexual Battery, I think it is chapter 794 in the state penal code.

I brought up rape because there is such a casual attitude in this society where sexual battery and molestation is concerned it seemed a good time to bring up some statistics that may change some minds with regard to some of the statistics.

"One out of every six American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetimes"

may open some mens' eyes if they have female relatives and/or friends.

Tango one statistic you missed.
The number of people falsely accused.

This is sort of the same argument as Capital punishment for murder, but with a twist.

Because a lot of rapes and molestations go unreported there is an automatic assumption of guilt when a guy is accused.

Even if proven innocent, the charges will stay with him forever.

In most cases he will be ruined with just the allegation. The presumption of guilt is so strong that no one will ever really trust the person again.

Yes, they are a small minority, but there are innocent people accused.

So, what is your position on reparation for false accusations ??
