Wicking T-Shirt SuggestionsView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 41 of 41 messages posted.
Take 2. “I'm looking for a new wicking T-Shirt. I was thinking about getting the Mountain Hardwear Ignition Tee, any thoughts? I'd like to get a shirt from REI.com as I have a few other things to get with my tax return. However, if someone makes a really good one at a fair price and it's not at REI I would consider. Any help will be much appreciated!” 3:47:59 PM 4/05/04 “aparently there's an Arc Teryx psi t-shirt on there for $27. They are fantastic.” 3:50:35 PM 4/05/04 “check rei outlet, today only sale - rei coolmax t-shirt, $13 or so.” 3:55:54 PM 4/05/04 “Sweet, I am going right now. Thanks simer!” 4:01:58 PM 4/05/04 “SNAP! All they have left are smalls and medium's in black.” 4:04:08 PM 4/05/04 “I like my Duofold Cool-max T-shirts, though they are mid-weight and can be too much for warmer weather. My all around preference is for my Patagonia silk weight Tees. Extremely comfortable, dry in a flash.” 4:05:21 PM 4/05/04 “If you'll look to the right you'll see a Duofold advertised from Latta outdoors for $13. I tend to get whatever wicking t is available in the $10-15 range. I don't understand spending $30 for a shirt that I wear in summer that will dry a whopping 3 minutes quicker. I typically find that my cheapo shirts are dry once I've finished my rest break while hiking.” 4:08:48 PM 4/05/04 Sizing? “I looked at rei-outlet.com but as usual they don't have my size. For the past few years I've been using Galyan's brand shirts...but I'm looking to try something different. I'll look into that Arc Tyrex shirt. I was thinking of buying two. Now as it's been awhile...I can't remember...for a wicking shirt to work properly it shouldn't fit too loosely right? Normally I wear XL and they are loose on me...you want a wicking shirt to fit closer so it can wick and do its job, right?” 4:11:00 PM 4/05/04 “Wal-Mart sells a 'Starter' brand wicking tshirt for about $10-13.” 4:14:39 PM 4/05/04 “Nah, trying to get away from the "starter" brands as that is what I consider the Galyan's brand. Really considering the Mountain Hardwear, TNF, and Arc T'yrex” 4:16:04 PM 4/05/04 “I have two brand new Mountain Hardwear Synergy zip neck Tees in large I could let go for $22 each + shipping :D” 4:20:36 PM 4/05/04 “Oh... XL... won't fit you. Great shirts though. I really like the new MH Super Wicked shirt, because i prefer a collar and zip neck on my shirts. I picked one up at REI this weekend, $35.” 4:22:20 PM 4/05/04 “I've picked up several REI wicking shirts - tee shirt, turtlenecks. I like them all.” 4:23:17 PM 4/05/04 “polyester/cotton works good for me. But then I'm a cheapskate.(thrift stores have 'em by at cost by the pound. 75Cent/lb) I demand a front chest pocket, preferably in white and disposable if necessary 4:27:30 PM 4/05/04 “DeoreDX, what do you mean XL won't fit me? Are they made small or something?” 4:39:53 PM 4/05/04 “I've found they don't have to be tight to wick, but they do have to contact the skin. Can't say I have ever bought a Patagonia for full retail, though even 20% off sales don't bring them down to under $15. They wear forever, though, and take up less space when packed. They also dry super fast when rinsed out. I also have wicking tees from Columbia that I found on sale at Gander Mtn. Have been quite happy with them, though again they are a thicker fabric than the silk weight. For the most part, I don't wear cotton tees anymore, whether at work or play.” 4:48:41 PM 4/05/04 “They (MH Synergy Zip Neck T's) are athletically cut, and you said you normally wear an XL. Awsome shirts though... if you can find anyone with the Men's in stock I highly recommend them. Hard to find wicking shirts with a 1/2 collar like that.” 4:53:29 PM 4/05/04 “REI outlet more than just the deal of the day. If you click on Mens Clothing, then look under Training Short-Sleeve Tops or Long-Sleeve they have some more shirts with Larges and X-Larges. Here is a link...maybe: http://www.rei.com/online/store/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=40000008001&langId=-1&storeId=8001&categoryId=22000389” 6:12:53 PM 4/05/04 “I'm such a gear junkie...clothes are gear right?” 6:31:11 PM 4/05/04 “Absolutely - clothes are gear. And the comment above about Mountain Hardware's athletically cut tops mirrors my experience. I have the Transition Zip-T and I wouldn't want it any more "athletically cut".” 6:36:42 PM 4/05/04 “Well then I'll stick with the XL. I think I'm gonna order one of those and one of the Arc 'Tyrex ones...maybe and REI one instead...dunno yet...need more feedback.” 3:14:32 AM 4/06/04 “wickin t-shirt jeezus cryst! what the hail is worng with you idjits?? just wear a white cotton wife beater like I do and shut the hell up. whinin like a buncha pussies over a damn tshirt.” 8:34:59 AM 4/06/04 “ITS A DAMN T-SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!” 8:36:00 AM 4/06/04 8:46:19 AM 4/06/04 “I own wicking tee shirts by MH, Patagonia, TNF, Arc'Teryx, Cloudveil, Lowe Alpine, and Columbia. Get the Starter. You won't feel nearly as bad when you get a pull in a $9 wicking T shirt that is just as light and wicks just as good as all the others. For serious back country use I use the starter. When I want to look good and impress the pretty college girls around here I wear my brand name stuff.” 8:55:26 AM 4/06/04 “I have found that any thing 100% poly seems to work for me....” 8:59:59 AM 4/06/04 “For serious back country use I use the starter. When I want to look good and impress the pretty college girls around here I wear my brand name stuff." DeoreDX That's a pretty good point. But so far all I have used is starters...I wanna try a namebrand to see if they are any better. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.” 6:43:40 PM 4/06/04 “Name brand or no you might want to look into the "silver" threaded ones... they are supposed to reduce stinkyness. Either that or some Smartwool wicking shirts. At least they offer something different then a Mountain Hardwear or Arcteryx over the Starter.” 7:45:31 PM 4/06/04 “If you sweat as much as me skip the cost of a label. My shirts end up saturated and a cheap shirt is gonna dry as fast as the pricy one.” 8:50:56 PM 4/06/04 IFindShirtsInLowPlacesWhereTheWhiskeyDrownsAndTheB “Dub, hear me now, believe me later... Go to your local Starvation Army store to the short sleeve, button down, collared shirts like your Grandfather likes to wear. They're typically 65% poly 35% cotton, and very thin material. The shirts are the bomb imo, they soak up sweat and still dry quickly, are vented through the looseness of the shirt and through the button down front, and they've got a chest pocket to boot. Sure you'll look like you're the best dressed dood ontrail, but don't let the looks fool you, you can find some pretty crappy looking shirts that fit right in with rural surroundings. For *summertime* activities, these are the shirts you want. And one should run you no more than $3.” 9:03:36 PM 4/06/04 The Smell “Personally my shirts start to stink before anything else. I don't sweat a ton, but after 2-3 days in the same shirt it gets pretty funky. I might have to check into a silver threaded one as of anything I'd like to keep wickability and reduce smell. Plus my poly shirts when I wash them in the backcountry it never gets the smell completely out. Something easier to clean would be nice.” 9:08:17 PM 4/06/04 Buddur “I saw a thru-hiker wearing one of those. Pink with the sleeves cut off. Nice kid. And belive me I'm gonna consider it this summer.” 9:14:52 PM 4/06/04 “I still love the Capalene shirts but they are pricey.” 9:35:24 PM 4/06/04 “One particular brand of silver anti-microbial fiber I know of is the X-static brand. I hear it works good, but I haven't tried it yet. I have too many shirts already.” 10:18:34 PM 4/06/04 10:24:00 PM 4/06/04 “Buddur is right.'T'shirts are too limp and just stick to your skin. Those old shirts blouse out and allow circulation. And some are so ugly they chase the mosquitos away.” 10:39:59 PM 4/06/04 “Mountain Hardware Extend Ts are great and have silver impregnated fibers to repel stink. You can't go wrong with anything by Arcteryx. I love their stuff. My personal favorite is The North Face El Cap shirt. It's loose fitting (I prefer a loose fitting T), wicks like crazy, has a short zipper for venting, is lightweight, and repels stink as well as anything I've ever worn. I have two and I wear them often here in Florida.” 3:46:26 PM 4/07/04 “I've found that my Capilene silk-weight tees dry much faster than my Cool-max tees, making them a much better choice for rinsing out or even quickly washing on the trail. Also they never pill, as my other synthetic tees have, and they are MADE IN USA. If you read about what has happened to the textile industry (as in jobs) in this country, you may find this matters to you. Plus they go nicely with my silk-weight boxers.” 7:04:11 PM 4/07/04 “I have a Duofold that used to be comfortable but has irritated me the last 2 times I've worn it. My MH Wicked Tee, on the other hand, feels like silk. If they didn't each require a paycheck to buy, I would own 8 or 10 of them.” 11:45:35 PM 4/07/04 “I say go to TJ Maxx or Marshall's and buy a New Balance wicking short sleeve Tee for $12.99 and a long sleeve one for $14.99, and save yourself $20.00 in buying two rather than one.” 12:19:56 AM 4/08/04 “capilene” 2:05:28 AM 4/08/04
