April 6
Quebec's National Assembly has voted and declared April 6 to be Tartan Day to comemorate the unique contribution of the Scots to Quebec society (counting STD's?).

To-day is the 684th anniversary of the Daclaration of Arboroath (1320)that finishes with,

'... so long as but one hundred of us lives we will not yield to the domintaion of the English.'

(a rough translation of the original Latin text).

Really? Is there historical data to back this up? I took a course in the Biological exchange/consequences of the European migration to N.& S. America but we never discussed Scotts & French. I do seem to recall that the French were much more "Frisky" then the English, much more willing to "embrace" the natives... ;)

Nope, BM, we mate with anything or anyone that runs slower than us. Beside the scots minority community in Quebec there is a host of French speaking Canadians with Scots names.

Out West the Scots Métis community on ther banks of the Assiniboine River was as numerous as the French one on the Red.

We are perhaps less frisky, but we're incredibly easy.

Or at least get on TV.

You know, this petite women once almost put me under the table. After 4 shots of Cuervo I asked the bartender to just make mine "Look like Cuervo".

How's that for a drinking skill?
I assume, therefore, I can drink anyone under the table! ;)

Sorry Bison, my boss is still being evasive about the two upcoming weekends this month. I may or may not be working this weekend! I think I might have to say probably not and might not be available until last weekend in April. Could I still jump on the last minute if I get a good word?

Sorry.

So am I gremlin. We're having our wedding ceremony in May and I have almost all of my formal attire. I've got two kilts (formal and hunting). For the wedding I’ll be wearing hand-made castellated tartan dress hose (to match my kilt) with tie garters, a Montrose Doublet with lace jabot, Moroccan leather belt with sterling silver buckle, buckle brogues with silver buckles, and a beautiful sporran that arrived yesterday.

I had my tartan cloth woven in Scotland with the help of Peter MacDonald (tartan historian). I had a master kiltmaker in NC make the kilts. She studied under Bob Martin, who wrote a book on the subject. I’ve spent a lot of time researching proper formal attire.

We’re a highland clan and one of the Sol Alpine. As most clans, we have a spotty history of alliances. We fought on both sides of the Jacobite uprisings. And we were one of the four original clans of the Black Watch (also known as The Ladies from Hell).

SCOTLAND FOREVER!

Yeah, I'm psyched. Of course between Denise's brothers, and my friends, the kilt is probably coming up at some point. I'm going against tradition (for public decency sake) and am wearing a funny pair of underwear.

My Scottish ancestors came into Canada around 1620 and migrated down to North Dakota.

Thanks, Amy. You can bet I'll be sure to post some pics. With the kilt firmly in it's proper place thankyouverymuch.
