Out West the Scots Métis community on ther banks of the Assiniboine River was as numerous as the French one on the Red.

“So am I gremlin. We're having our wedding ceremony in May and I have almost all of my formal attire. I've got two kilts (formal and hunting). For the wedding I’ll be wearing hand-made castellated tartan dress hose (to match my kilt) with tie garters, a Montrose Doublet with lace jabot, Moroccan leather belt with sterling silver buckle, buckle brogues with silver buckles, and a beautiful sporran that arrived yesterday.

I had my tartan cloth woven in Scotland with the help of Peter MacDonald (tartan historian). I had a master kiltmaker in NC make the kilts. She studied under Bob Martin, who wrote a book on the subject. I’ve spent a lot of time researching proper formal attire.

We’re a highland clan and one of the Sol Alpine. As most clans, we have a spotty history of alliances. We fought on both sides of the Jacobite uprisings. And we were one of the four original clans of the Black Watch (also known as The Ladies from Hell).

“Yeah, I'm psyched. Of course between Denise's brothers, and my friends, the kilt is probably coming up at some point. I'm going against tradition (for public decency sake) and am wearing a funny pair of underwear.

My Scottish ancestors came into Canada around 1620 and migrated down to North Dakota.
