What I'm trying to figure out is, if I have the equipment to do this trip, I don't know if it is going to be an extreme hike. I have gaitors and a hammock and a bag good to 30-40 degrees... I'm mostly wondering if it is going to be wicked cold and wet out....or if the hiking will be wicked hard rock climbing or trails..... the adirondack one with redhawk sounds cool thru the all the gorge's too... I have all the stuff needed for mild spring and fall and all the summer weather, but as far as the colder weather stuff I'm working on that....
snafu29

tom jones extreme?
HAHA no, its not that bad. nothing in Harriman could really kick your butt.
I think it would be more wet then cold. still a couple of weeks away. depending on how cold of a sleeper you are, i think a tarp would be fine

IMHO

I suppose the temperature could dip below freezing.

Its likely to range from 30 to 60 degrees.

I would take two layers for the bottom.....trousers and rain pants.

For the top....T-shirt, long undershirt, fleece jacket and rain jacket.

Light gloves and a wool cap completes the package......for me.

I have 15 degree mummies(3# 6oz) and 25 degree semi-rectangular(3#) down bags.
Either of those would do.

I like the semi-rec bag, it can zip open flat like a quilt.

The rain suit is light and effective against wind.

I'll be ready for you to pick me up (please say you'll pick me up!) bright eyed and bushy tailed on Saturday morning...

Yeah, Maple - you always have some great excuse for being late! Blackouts, leaving the map at home, having to find a place to pee, the list goes on and on :)

You could even play "Nalgene Roulette"...you line up six Nalgenes in a row, the player picks one and drinks from it, but one of them was someone's pee bottle the previous night.

I'll never drink from bits Nalgene no matter how thirsty I am.
must hike
11:34:23 AM
4/07/04

I refuse to whizz in a Nalgene!

I got out of the sack in -20 on the FYAO IV.

My aim was pretty wild from the shiverin' and shakin'. >8^O

Good thing aim was not important.

Snafu, there are cheap/inexpensive bags in the 20* +/- range at Campmor, etc that will get you through late fall/early winter.
MarkO

ok thank you mark, that is a vision that will never be removed from my brain!

remind me to bring my umbrella when camping with mark in the cold or move my tent as far away from him as possible!
