Obviously, I won't get to backpack anytime soon...
But, I did drive in to Memphis from Marion today.

I left home about 7AM, moving south along McNeeley Rd into Marion. Just past the Courthouse, I took a left on Military Road after stopping at the Stop Sign and admiring the old library building across the street. The road to the Interstate is well marked and easy to follow. This morning is was a little used road with no school bus to hinder my progress. I passed a bunch of fields being plowed for cotton, beans and corn. Dust was everywhere and I found myself longing for my bandana.

I hit I-40 west of the "new" bridge and went across the mighty Mississippi River which looked pretty deep. Fortunately, it was a dry boot,,,er, shoe,,,crossing this morning.

Then I almost lost the trail,,,I mean roadway at malfunction junction, because I was in the wrong lane, but a nice older lady let me cut in. I waved. I hope she knows I am a TT'er.

Then it was the most boring part of the trip around I-240 south loop to Bill Morris Parkway and on east to the Winchester exit. Nothing much to see along this stretch.

From there I hit Winchester on east. I got to see Sam's, WalMart an bunch of fast food restaurants with colorful signs and a gas station or two. I didn't see any wildlife though.

I then turned south on Forest Hill-Irene and into our parking lot.

Today seemed to be an early day for some folks, so I had to park toward the back and walk 150 feet to the door nearest my office.

All in all, it was a good trip. Tomorrow on this trip I think I will drink a cup of coffee along the way.

if you wanna see wildlife in Memphis, you gotta take a side-hike, er trip, into Midtown. Or, alternatively, head into either Whitehaven or up north of Downtown on Hwy 52, (think thats the right number, could be wrong, its been a while)

Of course there is even more wildlife at the place called the "Purple Church"....aka Platinum Plus

careful if you venture into the northern reaches beyond downtown though - lots of "culture" there.

used to be that you could take a meal break if you stopped in at the Purple Church....buffet lunch!

I think the ole' buffet is still in operation, although I claim to have no direct knowledge concerning the same.
