trout weekend!
The water has cleared up and receeded here in NE WI. I stopped by a bridge in Shoto today a few times to look over the edge and drool, Streams packed full of fatties, some 3 ft long. I'm thinking of some private land, a weekend with a spacious tent, some good sippin' Yukon Jack, some fishing...some more fishing, and a huge frying pan! An overnighter sounds about right. This is such a cool time of year to combine the two things, fishin' and packin'.

A friend owns Brule River Classics so have spent countless hours fly-fishing the Brule, the White, etc. I don't miss winter in Michigan's U.P. (L'Anse) but sure do miss chasing trout and steelhead.

Enjoy!

Backpacking and trout fishing go together like sterling on silver. I wish I could join you. Envy. Envy.

I knew I'd hear from you on this,Prosecutor. I checked my dates for your Knobstone hike, and I can't make it. I am however looking forward to another chance to hike with you again. I've got some more recipies to let you try, and our last trip was great. I thoroughly enjoyed your knowledge and company. some fine trout will be caught this weekend...I'm thinking 7 wt. flyrod since the waters still high and they can run like mad.

Smokies
Towndawg and I were talking today about a Smokies Hiking/Fishing trip. Cades Cove or Little River above Elkmont sure sound good to me. Anyone interested before I put one on the Trip page?

Nothing quite like standing on the shore of a roaring mountain stream with rod in hand and pack on back.

I should be getting some more fishing in this weekend. Won’t be going after the big boys yet, but a few 8” native bookies would be nice to fry up in a pan.

small stream trout
there's nothing like the fight of a native, and nothing better than a pan full of those pink fleshed little beauties. I've spend most of my life chasing those little critters with a flyrod or an ultralight and some small worms. It's all about the drift...it's just got to be right, they are way too smart.

Trout season start 4/16 in PA. It looks like rain today and more to come. I hope it doesn't muddy up the water too much.
