“No, our missile guidence won't be affected by magnetic reversal. They run off of GPS telemetry which is based off of time signals from satellites. So no geo-magnetic positioning. Now however, when the field shifts, we will experience periods where the field will be nonexistant. This will kill a lot of sattellites, as they are bombarded with massive solar winds. Imagine a solar flare times a million.

There's actually strong evidence that we will enter a new ice age within the next 20 years. DOn't have a link to the article handy, but current trends in ocean currents match trends that showed up right before the other periods of mass glaciation.”

And the ocean current, the DEEP ocean currents that is, have an overwhelming effect on out global climate. The melting of the ice in the poles no doubt play a role in our global climate, and due to the fact that this cold water sinks and flows great distances, this overall warming trend just may lead to a short-term cold-period.

No, "The Core" was about earth's interior spinning being slowly stopped. A nuclear charge must be delivered inside and detonated to keep it spinning.

The new movie is about magnetic fields. I saw the trailer last weekend before Spartan started.
