How to get on your family's good side

Friday night dinner
Friday evening, my family came home to me making Bacon-Wrapped Barbecued Shrimp, steaks, and potatoes. That will definitely get them on your good side.

recipe:

20-30 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 lb hickory-smoked bacon
Your favorite barbecue sauce

Cut the pound of bacon in half, across the strips. Wrap each shrimp in a half-piece of bacon, and skewer them, 6-8 to a skewer. I do this operation one at a time, using the skewer to hold the bacon on.

Place the skewers of bacon-wrapped shrimp on a charcoal or gas grill, and coat liberally with your favorite barbecue sauce. Turn frequently to keep them from burning. Cook for about 30 minutes, or until shrimp is firm and no longer pink. (Like you're supposed to be able to see that, right?) Remove from skewers and serve. Bask in the appreciation of your family.

I've only had bacon wrapped scallops. Never tried it with shrimp before. Sounds good.

Do you discard the bacon? I know it's for flavoring so you discard it right?

ohhh..I found a wonderful recipe for Vidalia onions yrs ago....you slice them about an inch and wrap them in bacon and pit them on foil....sprinkle them with some olive oil & balsmic vinegar and wrap them in the foil and grill them...they are soooo good!!!!

Bit.....when are you inviting me to dinner......I'll bring a nice cheesecake with this wonderful Plum wine that a friend introduced me to......mmmmmmm

The first time I made this, the shrimp didn't really get done, so I probably left it on too long this time. Everything was done, although the bacon varied from crispy to chewy. But it was all done.

I do not have lard at home...never have used it for real. I keep thinking about getting some and making biscuits with it though...

Another recipie for Vidalia onions: Take a large Vidalia, scoop out a pit in the top a little larger than a cube of bullion. Add one cube and fill the rest of the hole with water. Wrap in foil and stick on the grill or in the oven. Yum.

Shrimp and scallop scampi with fresh asparagus and homemade hollandaise sauce works pretty well too! The strawberries in port over french vanilla doesn't hurt either.
