“What kind of sound card do you have?”

“If you have Windows XP you can right click on "my Computer", select properties.

Left click on "Hardware", click on Device Manager.

Look for "Sound, video and game comptrollers.

What does it say for Audio?”

“You might also go to "Control Panel" and see whats listed under "Sounds and Audio Devices"”

“Come to think of it, you can also look in "Add or Remove Programs", again in Control Panel, and see what you have listed.

Do you have an icon in the lower right corner (where your clock is) that has anything to do with Audio? Y”

“Currahee -Is this an all the time situation? Is is restricted to one or two programs from .com? I sometimes find the sending programs have a maximum set somehow. No matter how hight I turn my volume controls, I am blocked on increasing the speaker volume.

Next, check the following:

1. Start >> Accessories >> Entertainment >> Volume Control
Check and make sure you are not blocked by one of the controls. I've had this problem, so play with all the controls.

2. Check all your volume controls
__on the speakers, the keyboard, etc.

3. Control Panel >> Sounds
I don't know anything about this area, but it looks interesting. You may locate your blockage in this area.

“ASP always creates its own user, that's normal. Its usually named IUSR_xxxxx if you look up the users on your machine.”

“What kind of message would you get if you were blocked from a certain site. I can't get on myspace anymore at work.

We have other restricted pages and you usually get an access denied message or adult content message.

Myspace just gives me the white page not found with a message of "Cannot find server or DNS Error"

“Indiana John, go to http://proxy.org and use one of their proxies to try to get to myspace. If you can, you're probably blocked.

However, even proxy.org may be blocked - I could get to it a few months ago here at work, but not anymore.”

“SSL is disabled through Firefox, preventing me from logging on to certain sites like gmail. Do I want it disabled? How would I enable it?

Under Security in Advanced Options, Protocols SSL 2.0 & 3.0 are checked as is "select one automatically" when a website requires a certificate.”

“Ok, where are you webpage savvy people? I’m working on a new website for my office and am running into a few issues. I’ve set up the page so that when I click on a menu item, it opens a hidden layer, essentially making a pulldown sub-menu. It works fine in IE, but it doesn’t seem to work in Firefox or Safari. In addition the colors come up wrong in Safari (I’m not sure if it’s a Mac thing or a Safari thing). Any ideas on how I can make this work in all three browsers?”

“Most likely your javascript code isn't quite correct.

Is it a positioning problem or a display problem?

Colors appear darker on PC than they are on Macs. That's a platform specific thing that you can't change.”

“It's a display problem. When I clink on the link, the sub-menu doesn't show at all on Firefox or Safari. I may just have to leave the sub-menu, so it shows up all the time and is never hidden.”

“Yep, javascript issue.
It's probably not a big deal though.

Have you tried using the javascript debugger tool in firefox? It will help you locate what Firefox and Safari don't like about your code.

“Actually, If you don't know javascript the debugger will not help you at all. It's a developer tool not a wysiwyg tool. You have to actually know a bit of javascript so you can modify the code yourself.”

“I'm having some network problems with one of the Macs in the office. When you open up the window for the network, no computers show up. I can connect to this computer on other Macs and PCs in the office and it shows up in the correct workgroup. Any ideas?”

“UM...call that guy on TV his MAC world seems to be working great (LOL)...LZ sorry we used to use MACS here....is it this Mac only? Check to see if the network card is working. Man I am trying to remember....there may be a setting in the network area that allows you to reset the network stuff.”

Our office uses both Macs and PCs. My boss took the blue kool-aid and like Macs. The thing is the computer is on the network. It shows up on all the other computers and they all can connect to it.”

“This helps not even a teeeny bit, but isn't blue the color of IBM? Just asking. Seriously, this sounds more like a firewall issue, than a mac/pc issue. Have somebody check the firewall settings on the pc itself. (PS, what version of mac os are you running?)”

“The Mac is running OS X 10.4.5. I'm almost 100% it's this particular Mac, because the other two Macs in the office can see each other as well as the 3 PCs. This Mac can't even see its self let alone any other computers on the local network.”

After disconnecting and attempting to reconnect with my wireless connection on my laptop I recieved the error "limmited or no connectivity" and can no longer connect to the internet. I was able to connect Via LAN cable one time, then I tried to reconnect and got the same error for Local area connection. I tried to repair connection and it timed out on "Renewing your IP address" and gave me the error of "Windows could not repair the problem because it could not renew your IP address" or something along those lines. I tried resetting the router and restarting the computer, now I'm at a loss. Help!”

“Sounds like a router problem. Most likely you will have to tap into it and redo the configuration.”

“Yup, sounds like something got changed at either the wireless network connection on the computer or the wireless router. If you've reset the router, you will also have to try to find the "new" wireless connection using the default settings. Do you broadcast the SSID (wireless network name), use encryption (WEP, WAP or other), or limit the use to certain MAC addresses? If you did not originally change the default settings, anyone could have gotten in on your wireless connection and changed the configuration settings on your wireless router.”

“I don't know what the problem was... I reset the router again, this time disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it - that's all it took.”

“I got a wifi card for my company laptop because I get calls all the time wanting me to check my email that day. As I cover all of East TN, SE Kentucky and SW Virgina that is hard to do when I am in Johnson City, London, KY or parts unknown.

I can now get my mail within an hour by getting somewhere where I can get wifi.

Then, about a week after I got the card, I get an email from the CFO (sent to everyone in the company), telling us that if we add anything to our laptops, we have to pay $100 bucks an hour for IT to take it off.

I guess this is one of the things I won't confess to anytime soon.”
