(for a Canon, nyuk nyuk)” 8:29:45 PM 4/13/04 “Dude....those are very awesome! I think I might have to get one of those cameras. Have you taken any of your pictures to a store for printing? How'd they turn out? Also, did you get that check I sent you?” 8:33:48 PM 4/13/04 “Dub I can't see you beacause of the glare coming from Pennsy's head....hold on...I'm adding a polarizing filter....almost there...got it! Whew....almost went blind on that one...LOL! Got your check Dub...Thanks! I have printed some 8x10s and they turned out great!” 8:45:49 PM 4/13/04 “ ”8:52:19 PM 4/13/04 “This just reinforces what my next camera will be! Thank you.” 9:39:53 PM 4/13/04 “Ouch, that was quite a zing from a fellow chromey. And to think I added you on the "Who do I want to meet" thread. ;o) Tango - pick one up before Ithaca and we'll have a Nikon/Canon DSLR war.” 9:52:12 PM 4/13/04 “Oh yeah, just pick one up! Sure why don't I just get two, one for a spare! ~smile~ I already own a EOS Rebel just the film kind! But I will be armed with my Canon S45 and my EOS (lots of film)” 10:51:54 PM 4/13/04 “Beautiful, WW!!” 11:12:55 PM 4/13/04 “Pennsy....I knew you could take the zing ;) Tango..go get it, you won't be sorry and the EOS lenses you have will work on the D-Reb to!!! Thanks Trailtrekker” 12:19:50 AM 4/14/04 “Very impressive. Do you ever checkout photo.net?” 8:37:45 AM 4/14/04 “"Ouch, that was quite a zing from a fellow chromey. And to think I added you on the "Who do I want to meet" thread. ;o) Tango - pick one up before Ithaca and we'll have a Nikon/Canon DSLR war." Pennsy 09:52:12 PM 04/13/04 ignore this user I'll be bringing my new Olympus 5060, though it isn't a true SLR.” 8:40:34 AM 4/14/04 “man, those are nice WW.” 8:45:14 AM 4/14/04 “NICE!” 5:29:25 PM 4/14/04 “Dayhiker...yes, I have a portfolio on photo.net.” 8:11:12 PM 4/14/04 “I found you over there. There are 6 folks with your name, but I found your folder. Nice. The Bristlecone tree was impressive and the pic of Yosemite Falls looking through some trees was really good. The fog gave it that deep, dark, scary woods look.” 7:39:10 AM 4/15/04 “Too bad you don't have any decent places to take photographs with your new toy.” 9:26:21 AM 4/15/04 “:P” 8:41:16 PM 4/15/04 “Marvelous. Does it seem the more you look at photos between Canon lenses and Nikon lenses, the more you get a sense of the difference between the two. All things being equal between the two in settings, there's a difference in digital quality or image reproduction. There's something unique about Canon DSLR lenses. Can't put my finger on it. Yet.” 1:50:38 AM 4/17/04 “On my last hike I was once again thinking about all these photos we shoot and if there's a fading effect over time. Not a fading of the photos you take, but a fading of what's inside. These photos are merely an extension of you. See a photo and you see the person behind the photo. The hope is that a love for the wilderness never grows cold and that it simply grows where you bring with you deeper experiences that come across in your journals. That these photos become a living legacy.” 1:55:56 AM 4/17/04 “ ”2:21:47 AM 4/17/04 “Alright, that's it. I'm going to start whoring my girlfriend so I can buy one.” 8:12:18 AM 4/17/04 Big Fern Springs, Sequoia NP “ ![]() After work today, I ran up the hill... even though it was stormy :)” 9:44:55 PM 4/17/04 “ ”11:43:33 PM 4/17/04 “awesome” 8:37:47 AM 4/18/04 “man its only got a humidity rating of up to 85% so no taking pics while in a hot shower huh?? how much did that cost you WW??” 9:38:46 AM 4/18/04 $999.99 “The body is $899 but you can get it in a kit with the Canon 18-55mm lens and Photoshop Elements 2.0 is included also.” 11:49:29 AM 4/18/04 “WW, have you used any other Cannon lenses with it yet? Do the manual controls work the same as a 35mm Rebel?” 12:09:35 PM 4/18/04 “Dunk, I bought a Canon 100-300mm USM zoom on e-bay and it works just like it would on a 35mm Rebel. It has AF with full time manual focus too... so you can reach up and tweak the focus anytime you want or flip the switch and go fully manual...just like any other Canon EOS camera.” 12:17:39 PM 4/18/04 “WW, How about for exposure? Aperture settings and exposure times?” 1:12:40 PM 4/18/04 “How much memory does it have? And are you taking pictures with the resolution fully cranked?” 1:39:15 PM 4/18/04 Arty “http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/300d.html Here is the review for this camera, this guy is a font of info. To answer your question it uses compact flash memory cards so as much as you buy that's how much memory it has.” 1:51:46 PM 4/18/04 “Muchos grassyass, senorita Tango.” 1:52:42 PM 4/18/04 “No problemo (in best Arnie voice)” 1:54:41 PM 4/18/04 “Yep...what Tango said! It doesn't come with any memory. So you have to buy a compact flash card yourself....I already had two 256 MB cards...but I would like to get one of those high speed 1 Gig cards sometime ;) I can get about 75 photos from the 256 card at the highest JPG setting, you can also shoot in RAW format more info/less pics. Dunk...it will go full manual you can set everything...it even has a depth of field preview button. Also you can do aperture priority or shutter priority. There are very few differences between the D-Reb and my Nikon 35mm.” 4:17:47 PM 4/18/04 “I like that you have to look thru the viewfinder to take the picture. That is one thing I don't like about regular digital cameras.” 6:12:08 PM 4/18/04 “I know my new camera costs only $250 but the 35mm-420mm equivalent stabilized zoom lens sure is a blast to play with. I can't wait to get my Tcon-17 when added to my Panasonic will give me an equivalent 714mm lens at full telephoto. Squirrel Squirrel Squirrel Squirrel Hawks” 11:16:33 PM 4/18/04 “Pretty nice pics. Were they all taken with full zoom?” 11:36:34 PM 4/18/04 “Cute Squirrel... Isn't photography fun?!” 11:43:12 PM 4/18/04 “Yep... all at full zoom. I don't think they would have let me get so close otherwise.” 11:55:31 PM 4/18/04 “those are some nice photos - so clear.” 12:52:20 AM 4/19/04 “VERY NICE!” 2:35:50 AM 4/19/04 “ ”9:35:18 PM 4/21/04 Broadway Photo “has the digital Rebel body $799.00 and with an 18-55 lens $879.00 I've never dealt with them so I have no idea of cust. svs. But the prices are already coming down. When the d Rebel came out weren't they $999?” 2:27:14 PM 4/22/04 “Tango - I'm assuming you mean Broadway Photo in NYC? There are a few dealers in NYC that are absolute rip off artitst. I really don't want to bad mouth a company without knowing for sure, but Broadway sure rings a bell with me. Some of these places will advertise great prices, but the fun starts when you try to order. Shipping costs will be outrageous, and when they say body only, they mean body only. You won't even get a battery or charger that comes standard everywhere else. I'm not saying Broadway fits in this category, but I always get suspicious when a price is quite a bit lower than the top competitors. I pretty much order all my camera gear from B&H Photo or Adorama in NYC, both very reputable companies. Another thing to look out for is "imported" or "gray market." You can get an imported camera or lens cheaper, but the warranty is shorter and heaven help you if you need any repairs once the warranty has expired. I made the mistake of ordering a very expensive "gray" lens a few years ago. A week after the 1 year warranty expired, I dropped it. Even though I was willing to pay for the repair, absolitely NO ONE would touch it, including the big boys Adorama and B&H. I highly recommend always buying gear with a USA warranty. Some of these rip-off places will send you gray market stuff without even asking. Always make sure IMO. Happy shopping! I hope to see your new digi in Ithaca. :o) btw - SWEET waterfall pic WW! (this is your thread, isn't it?)” 4:19:18 PM 4/22/04 “whoa, that's an amazing shot!” 4:21:37 PM 4/22/04 You like me, you really like me! “(done in best Sally Field voice) Thanks for caring. Abes of Maine is like that. They suck! They make you call them ostensibly to verify your order and then try to sell you stuff. I like Adorama. I can't remember who else I've used that I like, I'm at work and my faves are at home. Mostly I wanted to illustrate how the price is already dropping.” 4:23:19 PM 4/22/04 “LOL! Of course I like you, silly. Why would you feel otherwise? Your threats of body checking and dismemberment haven't scared me off yet. ;o) Another outfit that has a great reputation is Roberts, in Indiana. I don't have the link though. B&H has the digi rebel with that lens for $929. Of course, I'd go with Nikon though. ;o)” 4:32:06 PM 4/22/04
