I nearly stepped on this lil bugger yesterday. Went for an after dinner stroll and decided to get off the path and jumped over a barb wire fence and followed a dry creek bed. I rounded a bend in the creek and a hawk took off with a mouse in it's talons, and then a deer shot out of the bush. I walked over to the place the deer was and stood around for a few minutes and then noticed this guy two feet from me. At first I thought it was big ass rabbit. The little guy held his ground the whole time 'til I left.

It was pretty cool.

Cool pic Rockman! I have never seen a fawn that tiny in person.

The D-Reb is a "Digital SLR" (The "SLR" stands for Single Lens Reflex and almost all modern cameras are SLR but for some reason they have attatched the "SLR" name to cameras that have the ability to change lenses.) The D-Reb can be purchased with or without lenses...but if you want to shoot macro you have to buy a macro lense :)

Too hot and dry in P'ville for a swamp...but I do have a koi pond and the dragonflies love it!

Humbling
Sometimes I trick myself into thinking I can take a good picture and then I see something like this and I am humbled. I try and tell my 6th graders not to use awesome to much but this picture is awesome. Great job, I am moving from a 1.3 megapixil camera to a 5.0 MP (trying to stay under 500) but no lens like this. Great job.

Same here. It is kind of discouraging to look at them and then go look at some of mine, lol.

Rockman, you serious about the eyes?

WW, awesome. I need to study the lens thing. I don't understand the numbering system, like why is 90mm a macro rather than more like a standard zoom...... How far away are you when you take a picture like that? Jerry is always telling me I should take a class, but I'd rather pick your brain.

Also, are you still a maybe for the South Lake trip? Did you see that Matt, the webmaster is coming?

Karen...I'm just not sure I can escape for 5+ days this year...I have had a change in employees and ...well it's not like last year ;) I think it's going to be a stellar trip with way too many photo ops....I didn't know Matt was coming out west...too cool!

It's more money and has some more features than the D-Reb....both have more features than I know how to use ;)

HOWL

I was lucky enough to get this shot this evening on a walk throught the local hills. I could hear the coyote yipping and howling a good 10 minutes before I saw it. At first, it was standing just outside a burrow in the hillside and then ran over to oak tree and continued yapping. Although the pic quality ain't all that good I'm still happy to get the classic coyote howling pose.

After the coyote sighting I visited a small pond and noticed thousands of new toad-ettes bouncing all over the shoreline and grasses. I've never seen so many before. This guy is about the size of a quarter...but not round like a quarter, more like a rectangular quarter.

Rockman, I thought you lived more in a city. Be careful of mountain lions.
I think both pictures are great. Maybe, my eyes are too old to discern whatever makes that coyote poor quality, but I love it.

WW, I hear you about the features and the learning curve. The more I read, the more I know, and the more I want. I just don't know what I want. And if I spend a lot and it weighs a lot, that's going to get less and less appealing as I struggle up and down the passes.

Wannabe, I live only a 2-minute walk from open space (Diablo Foothills) and the American Discovery Trail which traverses the U.S. Heck, If I wanted to I could walk to Rhode Island. :)

Sigma 12-24mm f/4G DX
Anybody have experience with this Sigma lens?

Torn between this one and the Nikkor model.

I heard Sigma lens don't always communicate well with Canon cameras, but then isn't Nikkor for Nikon and that Canon word in the photo may be artifact.
