the dates, the length (miles/day), the direction - almost everything about this trip is negotiable.

i chose those dates because hopefully the backflies will be settling down a little then, and the fishing should still be decent.

The bugs around Northville/Hope Falls are horrendous. My mother-in-law is buried there & we got eaten alive at her services.

there's a handful of entry points along the way so anyone can come along for just a section.

i'd be willing to go 10 miles a day and get some good fishing and exploring in, or turbo hike it with 15-20 mile days.

i could go just about anytime from june - october.

these are the food drops i was thinking about:

1st drop -- piseco post office -- easy one right on trail, just have to make sure it's not on sunday. <~25miles>

2nd drop -- i think it'd be perfect to have a car at wakely if possible, <~30miles> , otherwise i think Long Lake. i know that blue mt.'s closer, but there's not a heck of alot going on there, and it's 6miles+ (roundtrip) into town and back on the highway. Long lake's got a lot more possibilites as far as stores, resteraunts, laundry, maybe a hotel room for the nite, ect. and it's only 15 miles further.

3rd drop -- if a car at wakely was 2nd, then long lake for third.

What do you think ? suggestions or comments from anyone are more than welcome.

Those were the three I used last year. There is also a laundry mat and a Stewarts in Long Lake. Oh, the Blarney Stone bar & restaurant was nice too.

only prob i see is if there's no car at wakely, then its about 60 miles between the two drops.
not a big deal, but it'd be nice to only have to carry 30 miles worth of food instead.

did you mail drop at L.L. or just buy whatcha needed there ?

i was leaning towards buying everything in L.L. i know they have a little grocery store too.

We mail dropped in L.L. and had someone drop food off to us at Wakley.

Something else. Lake Durant campground has pay showers in it. You hike right through it just before you cross route 30.

i was def. planning on hitting the showers in durrant.

i'm going to saranacs memorial day weekend, when i drive through L.L. i'll have to stop at the grocery store and give it a critical inspection.

how come you don't come for a leg?

I don't know if I will have time to, but I will think about it. I can definitely tell you I can't do the full through hike.

If you were going to do the hike earlier, like get to Wakely on Memorial Day weekend, I'd offer you a beer. I'll be up on the flow that weekend.

'preciate the offer but i'll prolly be drunk in my canoe on middle saranac lake - hopefully with a bass on the end of my line.
