My $250 Panasonic FZ1
I was abot to plunk down $500 on a Panasonic FZ10 (4mp, 12x optical stabilization) when I happened across it's little brother, the much smaller FZ1. Seems you can do a firmware upgrade and get a few more manual controls and make the little FZ1 a great outdoor reach-out and touch someone kinda camera. Unfortunatly I got home really late from work and it's getting dark out and I have to wait 90 minutes for the battery to charge before I can play with my new toy :(

But, I did charge up the battery for a few minutes and stepped outside and snapped these two pics. The sun is setting so there was little to no lighting, but this gives you a good idea what a 12x image stabilized lens can do in terns of zoom.

Both taken from the same location handheld with failing light.

This baby is gonna rock for wildlife when I get a charge on my battery and it's not dusk! You should see some of the impressive wildlife photos those FZ junkies get. I can't wait to go bird huntin with my new camera!

$259 at OneCall

YOu can get it cheaper at other retailers (seen as low as $239) but Onecall is a class operation and great people to deal with. I refered my Boss to them and he bought his HDTV from them. It was supposed to be something like $2400 shipped. When he got the bill they actually only charged him $2200, turns out someone called and price matched the competition on his TV so they went ahead and gave him the price matched price even though he bought it online already for the $2400 price.

Very crip shots with good color. I'm in the market soon for a digital - I'll keep my eye on this one.

Just checked out the specs. Nevermid, I want something with higher resolution than 2 MP for cropping, etc.

Of course it takes a different type of memory card than I own.

The FZ1 is cheap because the new 4mp FZ10 is out on the market. Same 12X Leica lens with the addition of a manual zoom ring.
