I wonder what caused it/ (like I said before Reagan and Clinton had similar drops before winning re-election, so the poll numbers certainly don't doom any Republican candidates): http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm” 9:28:28 AM 4/17/06 “Many in congress have doomed themselves.” 9:43:23 AM 4/17/06 “what is different between "somewhat approve" and "somewhat disapprove"?” 6:49:25 PM 4/17/06 “One is Half empty and one is half full” 7:04:55 PM 4/17/06 “Good point on the odd wording JS. They do present it as a rating scale, so "somewhat approve" would be mildly positive.” 7:14:13 PM 4/17/06 “I think it is the total lack of resolve that both parties show that is driving me nuts. NO ONE and I MEAN NO ONE is taking the intiative on any issue. One side can only whine about the other side...the other side is sitting there just staying the course. Not an action policy during or for a war.” 7:22:36 PM 4/17/06 “XL - you had a chance to take action with your vote. You, like the other dolts that voted for Bush a second time, failed, miserably. How's that bed you made for yourself? What kind of soap do you use to wash the blood off your hands? Don't bother answering, your theofascist takeover of our country is doomed. Knowing that, I don't need your inane answers. lolololololololololol -- StoveStomper, aka "Mr. Why don't I git my insurance money? Lack of regulation and government control on big business is a good thing."” 7:23:38 AM 4/18/06 “You, like the other dolts that voted for Bush a second time, failed, miserably It's not like we had much of a choice. At least by voting Bush in for a second term, AQ and France didn't get the "regime change" they wanted. :-/ last edited: 4/18/06 7:49:46 AM” 7:49:32 AM 4/18/06 “AQ seemed to want Bush in there. He has given Islamo-facism a huge boost.” 8:24:14 AM 4/18/06 “Hardly.” 8:33:11 AM 4/18/06 9:52:07 AM 4/18/06 “AQ's hopes and desires on that were largely unrealized. No simultaneous multiple attacks, no secular government overthrown from within. Now Iraq has been a magnet for jihadists, leaving their home countries (like Saudi Arabia) free to crack down on their base of support. Post 9/11 has not been good for AQ or jihadists. Certainly no "huge boost".” 10:17:18 AM 4/18/06 “ last edited: 4/18/06 10:45:15 AM” 10:39:32 AM 4/18/06 “Iran and the PA have both taken a nice radical Islamist turn, and the Islamofacists seem to be recruiting and training quite effectively. The results may take as long to manifest as did the results of US support for and then abandonment of radical Islmaists in Afghanistan.” 10:41:12 AM 4/18/06 “Can't change the status quo if all you do is beeyotch about the two parties and vote for the "lesser evil".” 11:14:32 AM 4/18/06 “Exactly, that's why I usually vote for the lesser of two weasels.” 11:17:54 AM 4/18/06 “Aren't the two parties equally evil? Yes that is a trick question.” 11:43:49 AM 4/18/06 “Iran and the PA have both taken a nice radical Islamist turn, and the Islamofacists seem to be recruiting and training quite effectively. - ped They were already radical islamists - you're trying to tease out shades of black. What are they being trained for? Suicide bombing? Also, where are they being trained? Iran? Good thing we have military force in Iraq. And what is "effectively" in your mind?” 12:04:55 PM 4/18/06 “"At least by voting Bush in for a second term, AQ and France didn't get the "regime change" they wanted." - Mutt So now the terrorists have us so intimidated that we're better off voting a miserable failure back into office than electing a competent chief executive? Way to show 'em.” 12:35:37 PM 4/18/06 “than electing a competent chief executive? Who, that baffoon Kerry? You've got to be kidding. Like I said - there wasn't much of a choice.” 12:45:30 PM 4/18/06 “Um...unless you were a JIMUH robot you would realize that IRAN has been a pain in the ass since 1978. Now the PA vote was for someone who was not a clearly corrupt as the PLO. Sorry but the logic is horribly flawed. On the other hand. Lets see women are getting cleared to WORK in Saudi, there are some hints at women VOTING IN SAUDI, Kuwait they can NOW run for office...Libya once the canker on the planet has more or less made nice...Yeah you guys are right we are doing more harm than good....(LOL) Face it we are WINNING the war (granted if you guys would just support the effort the war would end sooner (REFERNCE the NVA comments about the Protests in the 1960's and 1970's)” 12:46:11 PM 4/18/06 “Didn't Libya just get caught in a plot to assassinate Crown Prince Abdullah? I guess that's why you threw in the 'more or less' part.” 1:02:12 PM 4/18/06 “Um...unless you were a JIMUH robot you would realize that IRAN has been a pain in the ass since 1978. Those crazy Iranians and their unprovoked evil!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S.-Iran_relations The 1950s and the politics of oil, a turning point. From 1952-53, Iran's democractically elected nationalist Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh began a period of rapid power consolidation, which led to the brief exile and then placement into power of Iran's constitutional monarch, the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Much of the events of 1952 were started by Mossadegh’s nationalization of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, now British Petroleum. Established by the British in the early 20th century, an agreement had been made to share profits, but the company hid their financial records from the Iranian government. Due to alleged profit monopolization by the Anglo-Iranian Oil company, the Iranian Parliament had unanimously agreed to nationalize its holding of, what was at the time, the British Empire’s largest company. The United States and Britain, through a now-admitted covert operation of the CIA called Operation Ajax, helped organize protests to overthrow Moussadeq and return the Shah to Iran. After his return from brief exile, Iran's fledgling attempts at democracy quickly descended into dictatorship as the Shah dismantled the constitutional limitations on his office and began to rule as an absolute monarch. During his reign, the Shah received significant American support, frequently making state visits to the White House and earning praise from numerous American Presidents. The Shah's close ties to Washington and his bold agenda of rapidly Westernizing of Iran soon began to infuriate certain segments of the Iranian population, especially the hardline Islamic conservatives.” 3:44:21 PM 4/18/06 “Um, unless you were totally asleep at the wheel - Iranian politics were moving towards liberalization. The public had repeatedly elected the most decent president available for some time. That streak ended with the last election and the selection of a hard line fanatic.” 5:19:59 PM 4/18/06 “Ped ,did Iraq maybe cause that change?” 8:18:16 AM 4/19/06 “so lil...don't know if you realize it but Wikipedia is not the MOST reliable source of information. The facts are that in the late 1970's and early 1980s Khomeni is quoted as saying he thought of the US as a HEADLESS chicken in response to the JIMUH policies. In the third world 14th century thinking unless you show STRENGTH you are a coward. I wonder in 1979 during the crisis if we had wiped out the Iranian Airforce, And hit three or four major military targets how the rest of the islamic world would have responded? Granted the Embassy staffers would have been toast, but imagine how the Iranian Children would have responded? If we had given the Iranian government 72 hours to resolve the violation of our territory (the embassy) then they watched as their air bases, major military bases and naval ability was turned into death valley? HMMM...wonder what would have happened? But The JIMUH was a COWARD and we have paid for it ever since.” 8:28:31 AM 4/19/06 “"....(LOL) Face it we are WINNING the war (granted if you guys would just support the effort the war would end sooner (REFERNCE the NVA comments about the Protests in the 1960's and 1970's)" LOL yourself!! If only Truman had listened to protesters in 1945 that entire pooch screw could have been avoided. To get France to help counter the Soviet threat in Europe Truman promised they could keep their colonies. Thirty years later it was all for naught as the Viets won their independence. But there is no changing the past.” 8:59:04 AM 4/19/06 “If we had given the Iranian government 72 hours to resolve the violation of our territory (the embassy) then they watched as their air bases, major military bases and naval ability was turned into death valley? ...... and led to the death of all the hostages - which those on the right would still be whining about today.” 9:05:07 AM 4/19/06 “Then the US would be helping Iran protect its' self from Iraq.” 9:13:21 AM 4/19/06 “so lil...don't know if you realize it but Wikipedia is not the MOST reliable source of information. Funny! Normally when someone puts down a source, they attempt to refute the info. If you like, I can provide numerous other sources that confirm wikipedia's info. But, I doubt you are interested in addressing the topic anyway seeing as how you disregarded it in the first place. My point is that while you want to sit back and blame Jimmy Carter for not laying a heavy hand on Iran, I wonder why you don't seem to have a problem with the actions of the US that led to the hostage situation in the first place. That seems to be the logic of most Bill O'rielly types like yourself. NEVER blame the US for ANYTHING. Only blame those who retaliate against US action. "You can heal the symptoms, but not effect the cause..."” 3:43:45 PM 4/19/06 “This is great! Lets start with MARKO...so Vietnam gained their independence in 1975? Yeah every nation who has gained their independence has people climbing on to boats to risk pirates, etc to get away from the NEW PARADISE. LOL Great Plan, I just can't find where you stole it from Pravda in 1975. Y2 when we started the true UNILATERAL WAR in Bosnia (what was the REAL REASON???? I keep forgetting.) NO UN APPROVAL, NO RESOLUTION (there are 4 big ones along with the surrender documents of 1991 that allow us to go into Iraq. Please tell me the name of three credible Republicans who did the same Hanoi Janesque actions as people like Screamin Dean, Ted Kennedy, etc etc? There were NONE, ZIP, ZERO, NADA. Finally and so il thank you for going a whole two short paragraphs without some personal insult. Here is a cute comment that I think supports my claim to possible innaccuracies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:General_disclaimer Want to guess what that is? ITS THE DISCLAIMER. I studied the Iranian incidents from 1980-1984 including briefings from people on both sides. TO totally understand the entire game is hard. Yes the US does make some deals with the devil. Um I think the two greatest mass murderers in history Stalin and Mao were both our "allies" at one time. But the sad fact is that when you allow your soveriegnty to be questioned in a part of the world where 14th century logic rules you are losing the game. You need to understand the rules of the game where you are going.” 7:27:25 AM 4/20/06 “Explain how 14th century logic is different from any other vintage?” 8:33:05 AM 4/20/06 “Uncliff...oh boy, lets look at their attitudes, they are something kin to the Middle ages thought patterns about just about everything. Want to know their attitudes? READ anything from the Islamofascists of IRAN or the Islamic Wierd Beards in the Taliban or Hamas. They are using the same twisted abuse of a belief to control minds. They use EMOTION to control people. Emotion is easy to use since it requires no PROOF. Feelings are FEELINGs. They are told we all intend to wipe out their culture. Yet their culture is protected in America by the very people they seek to kill. They tell their people that if women are allowed to do anything it will destroy their civilization. Yet WOMEN are actually the cornerstone to any civilization. There is not logic to their rationalization, becuase that means they have to question beliefs. last edited: 4/20/06 8:58:15 AM” 8:53:16 AM 4/20/06 “"Our forefathers"?? None of my forefathers are W.A.S.P.” 8:56:49 AM 4/20/06 “COngrats...on the now WASP thing, but then they were as Bill Murray said, "Kicked out of every worthwhile country in the world." Marko, to deny our shared common history is to deny the things that actually make this country so unique. To deny the influence of the "Dead White Guys" becuase they were white is just as silly as saying you Deny the Achievements of Dr. Charles Drew because he was black. I see each as NOT WHITE, or NOT Black, but as the rest of the world sees us. AMERICANS. I hate to tell you but I could no more go back to Wales as Jessie Jackson could go back to Africa...we are stuck here, but I would rather be stuck here than anywhere else.” 9:05:13 AM 4/20/06 “XL - You seem to be forgetting how Reagan sent the gunboats firing into the Shouf mountains of Lebanon after anouncing that the problem with Vietnam was that we started a shooting match we weren't prepared to finish. In doing this, he sacrificed US neutrality, made our Marines a target and then turned tail and ran when they were attacked. Many more good Americans died there than in Somalia, or in the Iranian deserts.” 11:17:00 AM 4/20/06 ““This is great! Lets start with MARKO...so Vietnam gained their independence in 1975? Yeah every nation who has gained their independence has people climbing on to boats to risk pirates, etc to get away from the NEW PARADISE. LOL Great Plan, I just can't find where you stole it from Pravda in 1975." Read some history. Ho Chi Minh read a declaration of independence in Hanoi September 1945, at the same time French combat troops were on their way to re-conquer. The U.S. government paid for all this inspite of the Vietnamese helping fight in the war against Japan. Thirty years later, well almost thirty years later, they were finally free of foreign domination. A lot of people fled it is true. They were those who had colaborated with the foreign dominators.” 2:06:13 PM 4/20/06 “Marko, does that mean we can never pull out of Iraq? Then we can build golf courses and swimming pools and huge bases and have our own new culture.” 2:25:02 PM 4/20/06 “LOL..Think so MarkO? UM free of foriegn dominators...so we are going to let the whole SOVIET/China thing go huh (LOL) there is nothing like a little "reeducation" to show the love of a nation for her people. And by the way, the first people being "reeducated" were the biggest supporters of the communists in South Vietnam. See, marko, one of my classmates was a boat person whose father was a member of the North Vietnamese Army in South Vietnam. When they took Siagon he thought he would have a cushy job in the worker's paradise....rather he got a 7.62mm shell in the back of the neck. History revisionisim is a sad thing, want to know WHY we were in Lebanon in the first place? Wew were part of a multinational force trying to stop the violence...or do you recall February 2 1983? But once again this was a "peace keeping action. Yes the New Jersey did send some volkswagens inshore but overall we were there in poor dedication (kinda Carteresque) to do something that Military forces don't do real well.” 2:31:05 PM 4/20/06 “Marko, does that mean we can never pull out of Iraq? Then we can build golf courses and swimming pools and huge bases and have our own new culture.” 3:04:53 PM 4/20/06 “What the heck, move the troops from Europe to Iraq. Make Iraq the next Japan. Imagine the fun for the tin horn dicators when Iraq turns into a free society. The truth is we are doing it wrong. We needed a MILITARY OCCUPATION like in Japan, with a McArthur dictating policies. Then in 8 or 10 years we let them slowly take control. As it is this will become a hotspot for terrorists and their supporters precisely because it threatens their wacko style of human right.” 3:08:11 PM 4/20/06 “XL, the history of Vietnam goes back a long way. And thanks for the Pravda reference, its such a classless cheap insult that right-wingers have used for decades against the messenger when they don't like the message. What happened after 1975 happened, that is not in dispute. The indisputable actions of the U.S. government(not necessarily the American people) set the events of the next thirty years in motion. Ho Chi Mihn and his cohorts were ALLIES in the war against Japan. His people had struggled against the French for decades as well. As a matter of fact, when Imperial Japan took over southeast Asia they controlled about 90% of the world's rubber production. Rubber, like petroleum, is essential to modern civilization..........and warfare. This was a real problem in early '42. XL, are you saying that the Soviets and China ever controlled Vietnam? Ha ha ha ha.....LOLOLOL!!!!! It seems that you may believe in the Fantasy Vietnam, one where the Evil Empire of North Vietnam was out to conquer poor "democratic" South Vietnam. Actually, China did controll what is now Vietnam...........from A.D. 300 until 1300(aprox). Ho said in the late '40s that he would rather have to eat French schit for ten years than eat Chinese schit for 1000 years. Hmmmmmm, what's up with that?? The U.S. government, not its citizens, paid for and armed the French reconquest in the '40s, France was kinda down and out at the time. French combat troops were transported on U.S. troop ships, much to the chagrin of the American crews. Those men angrily petitioned their superiors and complained that it was their business to transport American men HOME, not participate in a war of agression against a former ALLY. One might even say that the U.S. government, not its people, started The Cold War with this act. It is significant that the Cold War had not yet begun in September of 1945. I'm real sorry about the boat people and I don't care for the communist form of "government". What ever the political reality in a colonial rebelion, those natives whose family members had collaborated with the colonial power can and will be abused. The U.S. government(not the American people) created that mess and when it came time to flee in panic from an un-winnable war those "collaborators" and their innocent families are hung out to dry unless they can run really fast. Not fair, you edited out the reference to "our forefathers hunting and killing witches", making my statement about not having W.A.S.P. as MY forefathers look kinda like an ethnic slur. I know and love many of the W.A.S.P. persuasion! last edited: 4/20/06 3:58:18 PM” 3:50:44 PM 4/20/06 “By the way, the Soviets did have military advisors in Vietnam in the late '70s. They did not stay long, the Viets would have none of their schit. The Russians were refered to as "Americans without money" as they didn't have enough pocket money to support prostitution or black markets the way our boys did.” 4:01:49 PM 4/20/06 “Crime is the force, get over it, without crime this country would fold.” 5:49:25 PM 4/20/06 “XL would rather bash "Jimuh" than address Reagan's misadventure in Lebanon and his extreme about face in response to terror.” 6:53:50 PM 4/20/06 “Thursday April 27, 2006--Thirty-eight percent (38%) of American adults approve of the way George W. Bush is performing his role as President. That's the lowest level of support ever measured by Rasmussen Reports. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm” 10:43:55 AM 4/28/06 “Today’s word…. Nazi. Hitler enjoyed an unheard of 99% approval rating. Bush enjoys the lowest approval rating in history which proves he is the president least like Hitler. Good for you Mr. President. We salute you!” 10:46:25 AM 4/28/06 “The last FOX poll had him at 33%. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,192468,00.html A new guy on the Daily Show suggested Bush should beat a nun to death with a shovel in order to improve his ratings.” 10:54:31 AM 4/28/06 “President George W. Bush's job approval rating has fallen to a record 29 percent in a new Harris Interactive poll, reports United Press International. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that it is the lowest job approval rating of Bush's presidency. According to the Harris Poll, of the 1,003 U.S. adults surveyed by telephone, 29 percent said Bush was doing an "excellent or pretty good" -- down from 35 percent from a poll conducted in April. In January, Bush's job approval rating was as high as 43 percent. Nearly one-fourth of U.S. adults said "things in the country are going in the right direction," while 69 percent confessed that things have "seriously gotten off on the wrong track." The disturbing downward trend has continued every month since January, when 33 percent said the nation was heading in the right direction, the WSJ reported. The Harris poll results were released on the same day that The Washington Post reported that a Gallup poll had showed Republican support for the Bush administration has plummeted by 13 percent in the past 14 days based on dispersion policies. http://www.postchronicle.com/news/breakingnews/article_21218375.shtml” 12:52:01 PM 5/12/06 “Well he's pretty well alienated the National Security Conservatives lately. I wonder if that explains some of it.” 12:55:27 PM 5/12/06 Jump to Page << prev
