Filmmaker and waste of oxygen Michael Moore has admitted that he lied about Disney recently refusing to distribute his film. Anyone surprised? I didn't think so. Turns out there was no recent decision on the part of Disney to not put out his partisan, Bush-bashing picture....he was told over a year ago it wasn't going to happen. So much for the cries of censorship. Think the media will retract their stories? Of course not.

Moore admitted during an interview with CNN that he knew a long time ago Disney wasn't going to release it. This after he wrote a letter to his supporters saying he only found out Monday. So, he lied. Nothing new here...Michael Moore has been lying for years. Will the mainstream media call him on it?

Disney should sue him after that little publicity stunt. Why does anyone take this guy seriously?”

Filmmaker Michael Moore said Friday he wasn't sure he did the right thing by saving footage of U.S. American soldiers' cruelty toward Iraqis for his controversial documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11,'' instead of releasing the evidence earlier when it might have helped halt such abuse.

"I had it months before the story broke on '60 Minutes,' and I really struggled with what to do with it,'' Moore said in a telephone interview with The Chronicle. "I wanted to come out with it sooner, but I thought I'd be accused of just putting this out for publicity for my movie. That prevented me from making maybe the right decision.''

The footage, eerily similar to film of the atrocities at Abu Ghraib prison, shows GIs laughing as they snap photos of each other putting hoods over Iraqi detainees.

In the same scene from "Fahrenheit 9/11,'' which opens Friday at Bay Area theaters, an American soldier fondles a prisoner's genitals through a blanket.

"The stuff with the detainees in my movie is even more shocking than what we saw in that prison because it happens outdoors and is more commonplace,'' Moore said.

The documentary links President Bush to the family of Osama bin Laden and other oil-rich Saudis and takes the president to task for his response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The film, which won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival last month, became the center of a corporate spat between Disney and its subsidiary Miramax when Disney Chairman Michael Eisner said he wouldn't allow the film to be distributed. Later, Disney sold the film to Miramax co-Chairmen Harvey and Bob Weinstein. The film is now being distributed by Lions Gate Films, IFC Films and the Fellowship Adventure Group, the latter specifically set up by the Weinsteins to handle Moore's documentary.

Had Miramax released the film as originally planned, it most likely would have played in art houses, the traditional home of documentaries. But because of the intense interest in "Fahrenheit'' fueled by the distribution controversy, the film will now open simultaneously at multiplexes around the country.

"It will be in 700 theaters," Moore said. "It's the largest opening I've had, four times the number of screens that 'Columbine,' was on." Moore won the Oscar for best documentary for his 2002 "Bowling for Columbine."

"Fahrenheit'' comes down hard on Bush for starting a war the filmmaker clearly sees as folly. But the most disturbing images are of America's fighting forces in Iraq appearing as dazed and confused as soldiers portrayed in the Vietnam movie, "Platoon.''

"The situation is like Vietnam. The conditions in Iraq are just terrible, '' Moore said. "The soldiers know they are over there for a bull -- reason. .. . Bush has created an atmosphere for those who serve under him to also behave in immoral ways.''

Moore said he has received more than 1,500 letters from American soldiers expressing opposition to the war and said he is considering compiling the letters into a book.”

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Oscar-winning documentary film maker Michael Moore (news) says he was only joking when he suggested last week that he would make a film about British Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites)'s role in the Iraq (news - web sites) war.



A message posted on Sunday on Moore's Web site, the director of "Fahrenheit 9/11," which is highly critical of President Bush (news - web sites), said Moore is not making a new film about Bush's close ally, Blair, as he said he would like to do in interviews last week.


The posting ran under the headline: "Sorry to scare you, Tony: Michael Moore was just kidding."


In an interview with Reuters on Friday, Moore was asked about the lack of many references in the movie to Blair and the British role in the war.


"I struggled with it because, I think, what I decided is that I need to make a separate film about Blair, at some point here. I need to do something about Blair and Britain," Moore said.


The British prime minister has been a leading supporter of Bush and his controversial and divisive foreign policy, and British troops are playing a major role in the U.S.-led coalition currently in Iraq.


"Fahrenheit 9/11,' a documentary that takes a critical look at Bush's waging of the Iraq war, won the top prize at Cannes and opens in the United States on June 25.”

ASPEN, Colo. July 24, 2004 — Disney chief executive Michael Eisner has seen "Fahrenheit 9/11," the film that The Walt Disney Co. refused to distribute and he liked it.

"The reason it is a hit is it's entertaining," Eisner said last week. "I thought it was like going to a rock concert. I loved it, but not in a political (sense)."

Eisner spoke at Fortune magazine's fourth annual Brainstorm conference, co-hosted by The Aspen Institute.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" criticizes President Bush's response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the war in Iraq. The documentary has filled theaters since its release in June, drawing a record-breaking gross of $94 million.

Now, if they were 100% moisture-wicking self-cleaning underwear made of gold and silk threads, that might be considered to be a bribe.... but "regular" underwear and ramen noodles? Does the Republican Party really think that young people can have their votes swayed because of a few small cheap trinkets? Granted, lots of voter apathy exists today, but if I were a 20-something non-registered potential voter, I would be more than a tad offended to think that the Republican Party would automatically discount me as some who could only vote one way (not Republican)...It's a pretty condescending attitude and actually might influence an indecisive young person to NOT vote Republican....

Personally, I think the big stink being raised by the Republicans has to do with the fact that they didn't think of such a gimmicky idea first--really, what are they affraid of--maybe they should be out there giving away their own silky boxers and designer pasta?!

Do you think the stickers that say "I voted" might be considered to be a bribe as well? After all, they cost money and time to print...
