wording help... “Ok I feel stupid...but I am filling out this online application for the state of NC and they ask why I want to get a job in the western districts ... ok..and I just can't seem to come up with something catchy to say that will make the hiring parties really look at me.. So far I have this: (no laughing I am terrible at writing) Ok I said I wanted to have the job there because I desired to live in the Western part of the state where I can grown with my students. Help that sounds so dumb... I am taking any and all suggestions.. I have to make it sound better!!” 9:00:27 PM 4/22/04 “you could maybe say that you've visited that part of the state on many occasions and have always found the communities and the people so pleasant that it is the type of place you want to make your home in. does that help?” 9:05:09 PM 4/22/04 “So you can be closer to North Dakota?” 9:10:01 PM 4/22/04 “It's all about them: You have looked at various opportunities and you think you are good fit for the needs of the region and can help them the most. (make up some reasons to back it up...sort of like you said above, but make it more compelling). Tell them how you can contribute to their success. Do they have a published mission statement somewhere? If so, tell how you would like to work with in environment like that and help them.” 9:11:24 PM 4/22/04 “...and have Roam Around check grammer and speeling.... ;-) Gawd knows I need someone to check mine!” 9:12:00 PM 4/22/04 “Depends on the position and what you said about why you want that job. Stuff like better quality of life, opportunities in the area, and --name specific things that you can do in the Western distict, espcially if you can't do that where you are located. Show them you know what work and life is like in the district.” 9:51:50 PM 4/22/04 “I'm an art teacher. I have a misson statement but it's on the true rusume.. otherwise this is just a question on the application. I just want to live in the mtns.. gosh isn't that hard..” 5:29:45 AM 4/23/04 “How about something along the lines of community, service and being closer to the mountains for the vast teaching and recreational purposes. Tell them you enjoy backpacking and whatever else it is that you do in the mountains...LOL...as long as it's moral, clean and healthy.” 6:07:03 AM 4/23/04 “I grown with my students too.” 6:46:23 AM 4/23/04 “hmm...did clem35yeah mean groan or grow?” 6:48:37 AM 4/23/04 “I like skiracer's approach. Toss in art with teaching and recreational opportunities.” 6:50:08 AM 4/23/04 “Yeah.” 6:52:34 AM 4/23/04 Thanks! “I like that idea of combinding both my art and growing in the mtns.. I was having a hard time wording it. Thanks guys! rox” 7:21:41 AM 4/23/04 “tree is great at doing this for me. but it is hard right now because I have had two careers Animal Control Purchasing Agent how in the world do you combine both worlds?” 10:49:01 AM 4/18/07 “buying pests?” 10:49:43 AM 4/18/07 “Tailor the resume to speak to the intended audience. You'll wind up with multiple resume's each of which highlight particular things and focus more on what is relevant to each audience. Don't omit stuff - you want to show the complete picture, but its absolutely appropriate to downplay the animal control stuff when your submitting a resume to be a purchaseing manager. Then in the interview you can talk about why to diverged into animal control for a while and why your ready and desireing to get back to the purchaseing gig. Good luck” 10:55:58 AM 4/18/07
