Missouri trip to Mark Twain Res. or Cuivre River?
Both are north of St. Louis. I've done part of the trail at Mark Twain. Nice, but could well run into horse traffic. Also, I'd need to check about campsites. They have what I think are a number of spread-out, single tent site camp areas. I would need to check that.

Cuivre River also has horse areas. I've never hiked there.

So far nothing has been happening with setting up a trip to the Shawnee area, so wondered if people might potentially be interested in this? Illinois... Missouri people??

HEY FOLKS, ya gotta like THIS>>>

1. How many parties/people and/or tents would you allow at one of those remote backpacking sites?

8 per site -for camping you should register through our office - 573-735-4097 or you can email me a couple of days in advance - I check this site every 1-2 days.

2. Would there be a fee? NO

3. Are there weekends to avoid, when there are lots of horseback users on the trail, or other events?

Not really - we sometimes have equestrians come out for day trips - on Sept 26 there is a trail ride that might have 25 riders.

4. What are the rules concerning campfires? (I can't recall if there was a fire ring or not... if I saw a map, I could tell you which campsite we used on our overnight hike)

Fires are allowed in the rings provided.

5. Would it be possible to have one campsite Friday night and then set up at a different site Saturday night? That would work well for us backpackers, as opposed to setting up in one site and doing a day hike.

Sure - we just like to have you registered for emergency info.

6. Are there rules concerning alcohol on the trail or in the campsites? No rules.

hmmmmmmmmmm....
dare I venture into the HOT STICKY missouri woods to hike and pack with little or no chance of jumping into a swimming hole?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

NO! see ya in the fall when the weather is icky.

Kidding, I'd be interested in doing something, but not in the summer months.

Jump into the woods. Phhhhhhhhhhht!!! YOU'VE GOT A LAKE TO JUMP INTO -- AND RIGHT THERE! (I mean, ya almost fell into it!!)

C'mon! Once I get the stuff I'll be looking at a weekend. When are you "north?"

what the heck happened...
to word wrap???

sorry I messed the thread up. I an't jumpin into no stinkin lake...there's monsters that live in the bottom of lakes...that's why I like rivers...nothing stays long enough to get huge.

No, backpackin in Missouri is not my cup of tea...no cold beer, no steaks, nahhhhh...I like my river comforts...I'd give up backpackin if I could canoe and swim all year long, but that isn't gonna happen any time too soon, so, packin in the cooler months, canoein in the warmer months...seems like a purty good compromise to me...see ya on the river sooner than seein ya in the woods. The cuivre is on my list this summer.
