Omega Man
I saw that movie starring Cheston Heston (sp.)....ghost town after some kind of virus (nuke related, if I remember correctly).

He only gets to shoot those light sensitive freaks, when they come out at night.

Someone posted the link on one of those wacko backpacker-type sites and I just passed it along.

I only had to read page one to know this was a farce.

"In places where roads have not been travelled by trucks or army vehicles, they are in the same condition they were 20 years ago - except for an occasional blade of grass that discovered a crack to spring through. Time does not ruin roads"

They have closed a few COE parks around here. In two years the roads are crumbling as weeds take over. I am pretty sure the standards for building roads in the US are at least double the standards in Russia. I am surprised that a group of people so 'connected to nature' would fall for such a ruse.

I recently watched a national geographic channel program on Chernobyl and the roads were intact in the dead zone.

I'm not sure that this site isn't a hoax, but the roads wouldn't lead me to believe that it was.

i agree. how can someone say that they knew it was a hoax, just by the roads?

around here i've seen a closed a road or two also, and they start sprouting weeds fairly soon.

but i'm not that quick to call myself an expert on the deterioration rate of asphalt in a post nuclear meltdown vicinity.

i don't remember covering that topic in my transportation engineering or highway design classes.

any other civils out there ? is my degree lacking ?

I think there are a myriad of points to this site. One may be remembrance of the tragedy. Another may be freedom of info that was not the rule back when the 'accident' happened. Another may be the destruction that humans do may last longer than the headlines they produce.

Oh, you're the person who switches mutual funds every time they buy stock in a company that contributes to Democrats.

Imagine your chagrin.

If you happened to actually make any money, it would all be consumed in fees and TAXES.

Jeeez what a thread. When is Ped coming back? This place needs a shrink.

Tilt, whether or not its true or not is irrelevant it Could happen that way and if it didn't happen exactly the way the article describes, so what. You get the gist. I think its funny how people are totally oblivious to the effects of damaging the environment. It's an all or none proposition with some. When in reality, there are many shades of grey. Thanks for posting this Tilt, it made my day and made ME think, a little, at least about the earth which is more than most here.

I just don't get it. Do some people think this is some kind of 'nuculer-bashing'?

There are all sorts of technology that can be dangerous if the people controling it are irresposible or incompetant. Is this some kind of newsflash for these people?

Thanks for the link Tilt. Very thought provoking.....thoughts too far outside the usual simple liberal-conservative, good guy-bad guy, parameters of some I guess.

I have several Ukrainian-American biology students(7 out of 100). Their families left because of this tragic event. One girl, born in Kiev in 1989, was the only kid in the nursery without birth defects.

The nuke plant was named the VI Lenin Nuclear Power Plant. The accident was a great metaphor for the failings of communism in the Soviet Union.
