Have trip planned near Jennie Lake, Jo Pass, to Silliman Peak on the last week in May, and was wondering what it's looking like over there. Windwalker? Skibum? Anybody?

From the drive up last weekend, I made the comment to topazio that there's quite a lot of snow up in them peaks for so late in the season. That was from Bakersfield up to Reedley along the 99.

From the new house I'm buying in Reedley, the peaks loom high above and there's a lot of snow widely disbursed at the higher elevations. Not much help otherwise.

What's with this heat though? If it continues it'll burn off in a hurry.

Report from Tom Stienstra in today's SF Chronicle that they have broken through the last snow drift on Tioga Road - it'll open in a few weeks. He also talks about other warm weather stuff w/r/t the western Sierra.

I heard on another site that in late march/early april it was mostly clear to 7000' along the Merced River. I'm considering backpacking up to Merced Lk next week.
